Sony should drop their price. It's console common sense. Consoles have traditionally sold at a loss for a year or so. But it was worth it because you make money on games and other things. APUs allowed them to make a profit from the start so there was already room to cut. AMD is moving the chip size down so there is room for a cut. You get a ten dollar royalty on most titles. If you sell at the same pace, you will still not sell enough to make up for the royalties against the per console t...
Probably not true. Especially not with Xbox One. Emulation on virtual machines is a common practice and the Xbox One OS is a HyperV running two virtual machines. I've heard computers power is a problem for running full console games in emulation. But it appears the features of DX12 make running virtual machines on the gpu possible. Since GPUs have a lot more compute power 360 emulation might be in the cards. Plus Microsoft has said they are working on 360 emulation. And Phil Spencer recen...
Hey Cornholio, why is Microsoft announcing an Xbox game at a Windows event?
They dropped the DRM before either console launched. They created a Kinect less version to compete, and yes the price cut was to compete. But the cut was temporary, you don't want to be so far behind early that you lose too much developer support. Install base plays a major role in who they develop for.
As far as vision goes I think Steve Jobs said it best,"The public doesn't know what they want until you tell them". So while gamers can be vocal and sometime...
Sometimes the truth has been right in front of you all along. When it comes to DX12 I believe that is the case. What we do know about it is that it is much more efficient than DX11. With that being said, we have seen the improvements with games as a generation moves on. Those improvements come not from new hardware but from developers learning better ways of utilizing the hardware they've already been given. I heard tech people say that DX12 is a huge leap over 11. If so, these new effici...
I have no workings out, it's theory based on what I've read about Xbox One and technology in general. As I mentioned before I'm not a programmer or engineer. But it would seem based on what the article said and other things I've read that the design of One lends itself to having multiple VMs running different things. If DX12 allows you to go from on CPU core to using all core to send info to the GPU and that GPU can do VMs you shouldn't have the previous problems with havi...
This guy is either not in touch with reality or is plain ignorant. He apparently hasn't heard of gamergate, EA managing to be named a worse company than BP and Shank of America, the Mass Effect 3 controversy or the flack over the original Xbox One policies. There are many other things in addition. Console gamers go overboard with commenting.
If he had said it was because of being more closed systems or parity policies he may have had some credibility. But to pretend conso...
For all of the talk of selling the Xbox division Microsoft seems to be clearly investing in the future of gaming. I'm looking for big things this gen.
Another thing stands out. The idea of using VMs. Xbox One was designed with the cloud and DX12 in mind. They knew what was happening with DX12 within the Xbox team because there is part of the OS team that focuses specifically on Xbox. But the design of the Xbox One OS is like a server and it uses a HyperV. It's made to run VMs. When you put together things from rumors and actual reports, it seems DX12 will make Xbox One games look more realistic since lighting plays a major role in how w...
There is a version of the Anandtech podcast where an AMD executive called NVIDIA out for the tricks they pull. He explains some of it and claims they have seen contracts where NVIDIA has assisted devs in order to get games programmed in a way that hurts AMDs architecture design. He claimed it didn't help NVIDIA or make the game better, it was simply there to slow down AMDs architecture.
I will say that they could be sued if it wasn't true and I haven't seen NVIDI...
Lawson the APU in the Xbox One is custom but it's two CPU modules and a GPU in a single APU so it is one chip. It is on the larger side but should shrink to 20nm this year and 16 or 14nm in the coming years. Plus, like I mentioned, AMD has become more power efficient in newer chips and I'm betting DX12 will make the chip in One even more power efficient. On GPUs, yes they have their plus and minuses, but most articles I've read(not read many lately), almost always use an AMD part ...
Nuggets you think only NVIDIA innovates. They are pushing PC forward?
Okay. NVIDIA made the X1 chip which is mobile and almost as powerful as Xbox One. AMD made the APU in the Xbox One and that APU is a mobile chip.
Point AMD.
Freesync, inexpensive add-on. Gsync not.
Point AMD.
Every tech site gives AMD the win on budget GPUs.
Point AMD.
NVIDIA is definitely doing cool things...
Truth you lie. It's not like they are making up cars. These vehicles actually exist. It's not like it is a simulation, that probably requires more effort than pretty cars. They also took an extra year. There is no content excuse.
Boss you're not exactly right either. GT may have a lot of cars. But Forza has more damage and tuning and paint schemes and views. And for all vehicles, not some.
Some people bring up the difference in the GPUs. I believe it is only one generation, not two. I also have read on several occasions that AMD often rebrands parts with some tweaks and then sell it as a new card. We also need to take into account that these are modified versions. So while Sony does have an advantage in some respects on the GPU, I don't think it is as big as some would like to believe.
One the CPU side, Microsoft has an advantage. That newly released power ...
If you watch sports it can come in handy. Or Skype. Plus this is early on, there are many more possibilities coming. Be patient padawan.
Gamers:doubting the cloud. Major corporations, including Sony:investing heavily in it. I'm leaning towards the corporations on this one.
Xbox fans complain a little. PlayStation fanboys throw full blown tantrums. There is no comparison. If Xbox fans complained remotely close to the way some Sony fanboys do all sights would be nonstop whining because as Sony fanboys and articles like to point out, Sony gets far more exclusives.
There is no comparison between Tomb Raider whining and what happened with Bungie. I understand completely why Bungie did what they did. They never wanted to be a Halo machine and should...
Actually when you are talking about PS4 they are exactly the same. You're paying for online. Gamers have become way too entitled. Griping about $60 games but not $15 movies. Ten dollars or more for records. Guess what, artist get a very tiny fraction of that until they hit it big. I guess people think Sony is lying when they say six out of ten exclusives lose money. Stop whining. No one forces you to by a console. Look at the losses Sony took on for the PS3 trying to please fanboys. The ...
Mike honcho I realize that you failed to realize that Waluigi may be from one of the English speaking countries that spells realize "realise" instead of spelling realize "realize". Orrrr...he could be an American.
Mel I would love a Too Human reboot and finish of the trilogy.
