Really? Those games you listed (other than Division) have either disappointed on release, seen major drop offs in quality since their original reveal or been cancelled completely.

Weird I feel the opposite. It really pushes me out of the game when the protagonist says or reacts in a way I wouldn't, a good example of this is Jason Brody from Far Cry 3. He very nearly killed that game for me with his constant whining.
However, when you go back and play Half Life or even the old Pokemon games, you can almost play out the conversations in your head and, I guess, "imagine" how the protagonist would respond. I guarantee everyones story experie...
I agree, it's one of those "less is more" scenarios.
Personally I thought Jason Brody was one of the worst video game protagonists of all time.
Far Cry 3 was a great game, but Jason Brody was right down there with Desmond Miles.

You misunderstand me, I have no issue with "minorities", the issue I'm attempting to raise is the recent insistence of certain games to insert a generic minority simply to tick boxes or improve their public image.
