I actually don't think its too bad of an idea. If its only higher resolution and not changed framerate, features, content, etc I can be ok with this.
At the same time if these rumors are true there will be backlash no matter what happens. There's good and bad in everything. The biggest complaint I foresee will be that it divides the user base, which we all know deep down has some truth to it.
Whatever happens, happens I guess.
@joeorc
Home theater? How do the current consoles not offer this?
Microsoft is a computer software conglomerate. They will always be profitable enough to afford to be a part of the gaming division due to their operating systems alone. In fact it wouldn't make sense if they weren't a part of it considering that games ARE software.
Same thing with Sony. Possibly the biggest tech-based business around the world. I mean for crying out loud the Japanese are the leading market in technology.
They are both here to...
I'm glad they got rid of the bubble system. In many ways it was kind of communistic in that it suppresses unpopular opinions even if the opinions are actually true.
As for this gen I'm still holding off on both the PS4 and XB1. I'm still trying to finish the catalog on my PS3. Dead Nation is my favorite right now. Plus you can't beat free online. Easily the best console I own.

True but n4g use...
Price drop was their redeeming point. Lets see what happens from here on out.
I love looking at water but I hate missions that involve them.
@equal
I still have my doubts about this Neo stuff but the more I hear people talk about it the more it kind of makes sense as a business model. As long as there is a base version for every game release and an optional upgraded version with maybe higher resolutions then I can be ok with that. As long as its more cosmetic and not technical related (i.e. someone playing an online game at 30 FPS versus 60 FPS Neo version) then I can see it working out.
Bas...
I think it has to do with the ever evolving tech world. Everything seems to get outdated as soon as it releases so developers I'd imagine are constantly having to learn new software tools and go through more trial and error for optimization. Possibly explains why the more impressive games come out towards the end of a developmental cycle.
A major part of PC's market share is the hacking and modding communities. Developers love them. They know there's a niche for people that simply like modding. When it gets into online gaming is when it starts to become a problem and usually developers ban them after enough reports have been made. Single player or private lobbies on the other hand? They think more power to them.
I'd say the only way to get around modding/hacking is to make it illegal but any...
But this Neo stuff isn't even confirmed as far as I know. Its all supposition. Just people parroting lies over the internet. You ever read the communist manifesto "The Big Lie?" It basically states that if you REPEAT a lie you get anyone to believe it.
So here we are having a whole bunch of online users who don't verify or critically think for themselves to consider if the rumors he/she is hearing is true. They just blindly accept it and spread lies un...
Yes, people have been saying this forever. This is what happens when they try to make new console iterations so soon, it stymies and fragments the current install base.
Consoles are meant to be in your living room for the long term and moving on early in a development cycle is a sign of an impatient loser if you ask me. Slow and steady wins the race. No new consoles until at least 2019.
Just make it like youtube where you can reply to everyone. Right now its too cumbersome and confusing.
And what's sad is that the unpopular opinion is sometimes true but gets drowned out by the naysayers. This site is just a popularity contest. Like a witch being burned at the stake for believing differently than the rest of the community.
Bubbles were the dumbest idea ever. Good luck ever staying on a forum full of fanboys that shut you down.
I love the new layout but have one recommendation and a couple of questions.
- Option to reply to every specific comment. Not optional for everyone.
- Do we have the ability to embed pictures and video clips now instead of posting links?
- Updates on upvotes?
Play the Orange Box. You'll like Half Life 2. Even by today's standards that game is still good.
And I'm also willing to bet that all the meat and bones will be in the campaign and possibly its map editor mode. The game has a lot of potential and there are some who are already liking the beta.
It will have a good campaign but I think most of the online community will be focused on snapmap and creating their own maps and game types and stuff. THAT is what I'm looking forward to. Just like the map editor from Time Splitters.
Because hating on anything popular is cool. Also all the diehard Doom fans feel like its not staying true to its roots. Cry me a river.
Exactly! This is how I see the business model being played out. Might make the PS4 seem more exotic in fact.
EDIT: EDMIX
Online gameplay would have to be locked at the same framerate otherwise those with higher refresh rates (and ping) will have an advantage in multiplayer. It would feel like cheating.
Bumped up resolutions plus locked framerate for online equals potentially good idea though. Its just those with the base model will ...
