Sorry but this does divide the install base. The inferior version would be worthless. This is part of the reason why consoles have been like this for years as to not reset the userbase with each new generation. Plus consoles get their sales in the long haul not by regular releases. Anyone who creates a console knows its meant to be a long term investment, not a yearly commodity.
Xbox is doing fine and is here to stay folks.

There would no doubt have to be a framerate lock. It would literally be game breaking online. The ping and differing framerates means one player may not see the exact animation as another player while playing a match.
This is actually a part of the appeal to consoles is that everyone is functioning on the same hardware. With PC you have all of these people with different specs and settings and its obvious that the inferior models aren't up to snuff with the competiti...
But there aren't as many gamers as there are people interested in phones, or the internet, or tv. Those multimedia outlets have a much larger market than games.
Why don't they just call their next console the "Playstation Neo" and release it somewhere 2019?
Shorter development cycles isn't a good idea either. Its not a PC. It would divide the user base and keep consumers at bay from buying because they'll think a new release will come right after their purchase. Every upgrade would make the previous iteration obsolete.

Yeah there are some overrated games out there no doubt. The biggest games that irritate me the most are GTA5 and Minecraft. Just not fun or interesting to me personally but millions are hooked to it.

It really is a quality shooter that deserves to be a killer-app. GG made one of the best engines ever made. It just needs more weapons, new gameplay mechanics, customization, new modes, etc to be successful.

2 years is still early if we have a 7-10 year development cycle. There are even good games out now. I'm sure the best titles will be saved for last just like every other console generation has been.

Because Alan Wake wasn't special. Do you remember the gimmick for that game? It tried to emphasize "lighting mechanics" which failed in my opinion.
Pointing a flashlight at someone before killing them isn't groundbreaking, I do that all the time in BF4.
Alan Wake felt like a chore.
I'm still holding off this gen for at least a year until more games are announced. Yes there are great titles at the moment but overall this gen has been pretty underwhelming. I still game on the ps3 and the free online more than makes up for it. Whenever I do go next gen I'm going with the PS4. As of now there isn't too much on the X1 except Halo 5 which honestly I'm getting tired of.

If that's the case then QB is truly garbage. I didn't like Alan Wake at all. I got the free download for it years ago and after about 3 hours I gave up on it. It was just boring.
There really is nothing captivating with a majority of Remedy games except Max Payne. If people were honest with themselves they'd admit they're pretty mediocre and standard fare. Not terrible but not nothing to cry home about.
This will be a cinematic experience. The Mafia games have always been good and this looks great too.
