Gears 4 won't even be close. Its a generic shooter, always has been. It's just Unreal tournament through a third person camera and some dodgey roll mechanics. Its success stemmed from being a launch title showcasing the 360's tech. For its time it was amazing but it has been surpassed in so many ways its unreal.
For one, Uncharted has platforming and puzzles. This adds many layers of dimension to the gameplay and is simply fun. Gears has no customizable we...
Dude all their games are good. There's just no way getting around it unless you're a hater.
Troll bait confirmed
@Chaos
I guess you could say all games (shooters) in general get boring. Most campaigns I've noticed can start feeling like a chore after a certain point. The COD campaigns come to mind as they actually have pretty good set pieces and sequences but I sometimes can't even finish the level before I get tired of it.
I suppose its the saturation of the shooter market in general. You can only play so many of them before you've played them all. ...
@jmanzare
True, there isn't much variety. Something other people have noted is that the Destiny universe has a sci-fi setting which allows for more exotic locales and enemies. The modern day setting, although not bad, won't have as much variety in an MMO environment compared to other MMO's that are usually a bit more on the epic scale.
True, weapon pick ups makes a huge difference compared to loadouts. Makes the game lot more fun as everyone is racing the same weapons. You also get a general idea of map flow compared to loadouts where te person already has the gear they want. You're right, it isn't a traditional arena shooter but has retained some elements.
I know purists would say its not an arena shooter but it is. Just a more toned down and slower arena shooter. That seems to be what developers do nowadays is streamline and dumb down everything, especially with RPGs and such.
As much as I was hyped for this game I'm going to have to admit that arena shooters just aren't in anymore. It will probably have a niche following on the PC and those who like the snapmap editor. I was looking forward to this game but it doesn't look appealing. Its only chance was if it played like Halo (the only true successful arena shooter out there at the moment) and this doesn't look anywhere as good as Halo. The campaign does look interesting though. It seems very ...
You're right, it would mostly be scaling but what about performance during online play? Is the Neo version going to have bumped up FPS when they play against their base model counterparts? You know how pissy people would be if they did something like that?
But what about differentiating framerates? I think that's something that isn't addressed in the PC community. Everyone is running on various hardware. One guy can be at high settings with 30 FPS and another at low settings with 60 FPS.
The standardized architecture between consoles has always been a positive aspect, especially for online gaming. Everyone is running on the same hardware and any issues related to performance was internet service and ping related (...
I'm not liking this Neo and 1.5 crap. Bad news all over it.
There were submachine guns and LMGs back in WW1. A little bit more primitive, but they existed back then. I still agree that the weapons won't be as appealing as modern day weaponry. The WW1 setting could've just as easily been a DLC pack. I've been saying that for years that both COD and Battlefield developers could release Vietnam/WW2/Cold War DLC with their stanalone titles. At the end of the day its all business however so of course companies are going to try too nickle a...
lol everything having to do with gaming announcements is cringe worthy. The fact that grown men take it so seriously during press conferences is embarrassing in itself.
Some guys need a toke and a lay.
You guys hating on BF4 are so full of it. The game still has technical issues but its not broken. The mechanics are some of the best in any FPS in the market. Its certainly better than the broken spawn system in COD or the balancing issues of the weapons/class set up. Lets not forget the backlash of the jetpacks. I enjoy a match of BF far more than COD or any other shooter for that matter.
@Walter
It probably won't be the same frostbite engine. It will probably be the same engine being used for Battlefield 1, which if that's the case, the game will look great and have vast improvements.
You're probably right. Commence milking a la Call of Duty style.
Content is the key word for the sequel. More content and more epic large scale firefights.
A god among men..and now we bow..
Bathyj needs to host a roast.
I prefer military shooters like Splinter Cell, MGS, even Uncharted. I like the weapons and sense of setting more. I'm just not into the bulky characters and the weapons of Gears. Everything about them is a turn off.
