They told everyone last week that this wasn't about games and was to introduce the console. They even said it at the start of the event... they said it TWICE... once asserting what this was about and shortly after telling you that E3 was going to be focus completely on games and so they were not going to show this.
I'd agree with some of this crap about not showing games if they didn't tell everyone that they were not goin...

Because they've never had any success with serialized Halo series... This has been tested with the animated webisodes... it did well enough to green light this and personally excited to see where this goes. If Microsoft series is produced half as well as their commercials it'll be awesome.
At the start of the show they told you that they were saving all the games for E3... last week Aaron Greenberg said this... it was even one of the top stories on this very site... They did exactly what they told everyone they were going to do... introduce the console and it's functions... games were for E3... you know a GAMING CONVENTION... Not happy with the ambiguity of the used game/barrow stuff, but hopefully the uproar will cause them to lean towards more consumer friendly idea
