@obscure, don't think Sony care as much as you think, nothing has changed for Sony at all, they are making tons of money off cod without marketing rights or having to lift a finger for development.
These stats also show why they are doubling down with the multiplatform approach, to fund more Xbox games, which by effect is also now funding more playstation games :)
Yeah, let's ignore all context like Kojima acquiring full IP rights from Sony, and the MLB license holder making the decision that the games must be on Xbox and switch from now on.
Exception, not the rule.
But again, how does theoretically releasing games on Xbox solve that problem? If I'm not mistaken Sony said the PS5 is their most profitable generation yet.
So why would Sony release games on Xbox? We've seen the damage of over a decade of a lack of exclusives outside of halo and Forza, day 1 PC and going all in on gamepass has done to the Xbox brand, why would Sony do the same and damage their brand? Not even having CoD on gamepass has moved the needle for Xbox, in...
What would Sony have to gain from putting their games on Xbox consoles, where software sells poorly as everyone waits for gamepass? PS5 continues to shift magnitudes more consoles, they don't need the dwindling xbox userbase. The most I could see is eventual day and date with PC, I don't think that's out of the realm of possibility. Otherwise I don't think Sony is in a rush to gut their console and software sales by throwing everything on a sub service day 1 and porting games ...
Let's not forget from the leaked court documents which company wanted to put up the biggest walls by a huge margin in the first place lol.
Outsold by 10:1, a bloodbath, Switch selling 900k as well is pretty crazy given it's age.
Okay this actually looks great, I thought the series was dead after the woeful 3rd game.
What's the metric of success then? Did it lead to a big increase in sub numbers? It also had access to the large steam playerbase what most PC gamers stick to. MS hide all those numbers, so we're not allowed to suggest an Xbox game sold low because of GP, but we don't get any GP numbers lol.
I'm not suggesting it completely flopped, just going by what NPD has reported and certain fans have been saying it's sold really well despite no numbers and this rep...
MS hid gamepass numbers and sales following black ops 6, you can be sure as hell they won't reveal it after this either.
Edit: well shame they don't show us the numbers if that's the case, and Xbox sales still continued to plummet despite CoD :)
Indy at #14 for the month across multiple platforms in Xbox's 'best' region, 3 month old supposed Astro Bot at #8, up from #13 the previous month, can't wait to see how this gets spun lol.
The alt won't be happy with this comment lol.
I might be wrong, but I thought playstation was Sony's biggest money maker?
Yeah a hilarious statement, we have no sales numbers for indy, only people clinging on to it being 2nd in a week absent of other big releases in one region, a solid game but don't think it's sold all that well so far, unsurprising when you put it on gamepass on a console who's userbase isn't exactly known for buying games en masse these days.
Dominating so much they had to spend 80 billion to continue to release them on playstation anyway, due to plummeting console sales and stagnant gamepass numbers.
Guys just mark as spam and move on, it's the same butthurt alt troll, MS can't even buy a GOTY nominee with 80 billion let alone make or win one lmao.
@michael
*Big long MS apologist paragraph*
Despite all of that Sony and Nintendo provide profit numbers for their gaming divisions, MS do not, maybe mislead is the wrong word, but hiding the numbers is true, and some could definitely consider that misleading.
The fact that MS don't share this, console sales or gamepass numbers especially in wake of Black Ops 6 tells me most of what I need to know tbh.
I hope the silver lining here is that they've realised, they had a big hit with Helldivers 2, a big flop with concord, several cancellations, MS clearly rolled back on any notion of yoinking Activision live service games away, so there's no need to be working on 12 or however many at once which was always absurd imo.
Time to refocus for towards the end of this gen and next and realise truly how hard is it to penetrate the biggest live service games out there, and fo...
Wait what, you're telling me bluepoint was wasted by having them working on live service slop? WTF.
Yeah that is true, but they still mislead and hide important metrics such as profits from their xbox division. They said Hifi Rush was a success by some mysterious metric and then proceeded to close the studio anyway, luckily it was rescued by a buyer, but my point is you can't really take what MS say at face value with all the context included, they've been doing this with their xbox business for nearly a decade.
Obviously these figures are mostly driven by COD, but PS5 had a vastly superior lineup of games in 2024 than Xbox, who only gave you hellblade 2 for most of the year.
