Still have an original fat PS2 hooked up and working.

@ Mini Mario yes I realise the Playstation 2 and 3 were advertised because of there abilitys but also Playstation 2 was alot cheaper than a stand alone DVD player back in the day of it's launch.
I had a stand alone DVD player as the PS2 may have introduce the medium to the masses at a more affordable price it still wasn't the best for DVD playback.

@ alb1899 true Blu Ray players may not been cheap on launch but neither were HD DVD players.
When 360 owners made the decision they wanted to watch HD movies they needed to buy an add on which by my calculations made it just as dear as a launch PS3.
So if either camp wanted to watch movies via there consoles it wasn't a cheap exercise but at least PS3 owners had it built in from day one.

Well why would people only buy a PS3 to play movies when stand alone Blu Ray Players can be bought for a fraction of the price.
Just recently purchased a Panasonic Blu Ray player as a christmas present for my folks for only $169 with staff discount.
I have a Sony Stand alone Blu Ray Player hooked up to my big screen as well as my PS3.
Now I would say people are buying a PS3 for maybe something silly like playing games.

My question would be simple.
What would the real gap be when you deduct the multiple replacements the 360 has had to endure in it's early life cycle?
I use portable HDD at home but use the optical drives for backing up photos and family vids that i have and once a month backup new material to them and sisters and parents place them in there safes in the unfortunate event that something ever happened to the my family home like fire I wont loose those precious memorys.
So big yes for me they still serve a vital role.

LCD for me even panasonic techs dont recommend gaming for plasmas and they build the things.
Look online and download user manuals for a panasonic tv and only one with written reference warning against using a gaming console are the plasma tv manuals.
