Pretty much every major retailer has some kind of 80GB PS3 bundle...in some instances, more than one (Best Buy: LBP/Wall-E & KZ2/MGS4). Clearing inventory, maybe?
And my store just received a MASSIVE 80GB PS3 shipment from out of the blue...the last time that happened was right before the 60GB models were price-cut to clearance them in favor of the 80GB (and later that year, 40GB) models.
And there's so much circumstantial evidence for the Slim...

Let me tell you about my experiences with 360 models...
My first Pro was LOUD, ran BLAZINGLY hot, and died after a few months. Same with its successors.
My Elite, which had the Falcon hardware revision, has been flawless, but the DVD drive is a bit loud. So I just do game installs on the titles I play the most.
My Arcade (Jasper chipset), purchased for the family, is silent and runs very cool. You barely know it's on.

I'm on my fifth 360 since Oct. 2006.
And I have Best Buy exchange receipts to prove it.
And I baby my electronics.
But my Elite has lasted nearly two years without a hitch...there's something to be said for the recent hardware revisions.
"Red Ring of Death" just sounds so much better, and there's a Microsoft-based precedent for it: The Blue Screen of Death.
And although they don't happen as often, we need something better to describe a dead PS3 than "Yellow Light of Death." How about "Golden Glow of Doom?" :)

My Best Buy store just received a HUGE 80GB (non-bundled) PS3 shipment out of the blue...nearly 150 units. That's about 4X what we usually get on a weekly basis.
Interestingly, we also received a massive shipment of 360 Pro editions...something going on there, as well?
I think we may see something new from both MS and Sony before the end of the year.

VERY good news. Day-one download...and I still own the Xbox port AND the PC original. Any excuse to play more Sam...and this time, I get achievements!
Now can we finally get Quake on XBLA...?
And, the original is backwards-compatible with the 360 (although the second one is not). I've seen it for as little as $5 used...360 owners, check out this underrated gem.
