You are right. None of the beta-pages have previously said SC2. The only time they said that was at BlizzCon 2008,. when they confirmed the non-descript key on the BlizzCon card was indeed for a SC2 beta!
To be fair, they haven't revamped the entire Battle.net, it's just the infrastructure and accounts for now. Well, I guess that's a huge chunk, but they still have all the old content around in the old format.
They mention both the old site and the new forums as "classic", so a lot more will probably come!

It sure had a lot of potential. It would make your character feel a little bit more "human", even if this isn't what most go for, but also it oculd mean you had something you'd have to look out for, so you were not exposed to your weakness, and in turn getting even stronger powers in other fields.

No, I think that stats really are to show you through your entire history of the game. Perhaps put higher emphasis on the latest months stats or something, but show it all. It IS part of training.

Well, it might actually be more a situation of the fact that video games are so much mroe immersive. It's very easy to censor a film or the like, but video games will have very much content that is not apparent from the first second.
