I know what you're saying. I played the GoW III demo and Dante's Inferno trailer the same day, but played GoW III first. After I started the DI demo I could barely look at it. Now, a few months later I'm playing Dante's Inferno after the graphics from Uncharted 2 and GoW III demo have faded in my mind a little bit. I specifically got Dante's Inferno now because I knew I wouldn't be able to play it after I got my hands on GoW III.
I never experienced screen tearing on my PS3.

Is it really bragging rights for a game to say they have comparable graphics to a game that's a year old, and will be even older by the time Halo Reach even comes out?

Broad perspective is EXACTLY what Sony's goal has been the whole time! They know that over the lifetime of the console it will dominate. The 360's already starting to show that it's at the end of its lifecycle. Sure, Natal "might" add to that with a gimmick, but the actual hardware of the 360 is nearing its max.
It's pointless to even compare them with 360 games, so now it will become PS3 vs. PS3. It's the same reason they don't compare 360 vs. Wii. There IS no comparison.
So we've gone from 360 vs. PS3 multi-platform comparisons to PS3 vs. PS3 exclusive comparisons. Guess the 360's done in terms of graphic wars.
Should IGN give up journalism?
From what I've understood, Heavy Rain will consist of a lot of QTE's for gameplay. I'm not sure what the action will be like in Heavy Rain, but if there isn't a whole lot going on dynamically in the game. So yea, if they have minimal things going on then they can focus the processes on the graphics more.
I'm not sure what to think of this game yet. It seems like it will provide a new type of experience in gaming, but I'm worried about how "fun" it will actually be....
They're going to have to start giving them away for free in order to get rid of them soon.

I would say that when you post a comment like "Now watch all the PS3 fanboys say it's horrible just because it's Xbox" kinda labels you right away as a fanboy yourself who probably does the same thing to PS3 related stories.
All of you people stating "I'll give it the consoles a few years next gen to see how they pan out first." are going to be the ones whining when they buy their 3rd or 4rd generation SKU and it's different than the SKU at launch. "It doesn't have backwards compatibility, it doesn't have this, it doesn't have that. Now I'm angry that I didn't buy it at launch."

All of you commenting on adding or removing certain things, these images are a concept made by the site that did the story. They have no real evidence to backup the images, so these aren't official. They're clearly basing it on some of the prototypes Sony has shown at demo's. I don't think it will look like this because their R&D dept has already stated that the large ball on the end won't likely be how the final product looks. They were just using it in the prototypes to test the PSE...
