I remember EB games and some others had the same type of promo for a couple of anticipated games.
One that dashes to mind is god of war II which had the same offer when I got it but I never returned it within the time frame and I doubt many people did either.
It's a nice hook that's all.
That's the same type of deal that was done with god of war II when it came out.
Needless to say not many people actually returned it anyways. There's a reason they promote it like this.

Sony has learnt a hell of a lot with the introduction of the PSP and you can bet they'll kick butt massively with the PSP2 and correct alot of issues they either didn't initially see or took for granted.
I most certainly see the PSP2 taking over in market share as leader in hand held gaming market for it's respective generation, I have no doubt about this.

This isn't a very comforting feeling when one feels like you're essentially playing Digital Russian Roullette with hundreds (and most of the time thousands) of your $$ everytime you trun on your machine. :(
