Totally different. PSN, WiiWare and Xbox LIVE Arcade are similar. Xbox LIVE Community games are "dev-published".

You _must_ be kidding right? OSX and Linux COMBINED are about ~5% of the desktop market.
Get real. DX11 will be like every DX before. It will take time for uptake as hardware catches up, users will come to expect it, technology marches on and on and on.

I've got Halo Wars pre-ordered because I love RTS. And it will be done well because Ensemble built it for Consoles "first" (w/r/t control).

Community Games and XNA are (IMHO) an attempt to start up the development base for just such a device.

The generations are 5-7 years. This is dictated by the whole of computer and electronics industry.
The PS4 *will* be coming with the Wii2 or Xbox 720. The PS2 will end at the same time the PS4 ships.
Sony (and probably MS) are moving to a "Upper and lower" tier console scheme. This is enabled by the splitting of the market into Media, Casual and Hardcore.
Hardcore gamers demand modern technology. The PS4 will come sooner than later.

While Golden Axe wasnt the "AAA" Exclusive, I still rented and enjoyed it.

During XP's launch, people complained about it. Everyone wanted W2K. Now, same with Vista.
Vista is a major change from XP. It will take some time to optimize it for speed, to kick out the bugs, to "iron everything out".
Windows 7 is the implementation of those improvements. I ran Vista Ultimate and like it a lot. But I'll be putting W7 Beta on every machine I own now.

Xbox 360 has the highest game-attach rate in the history of gaming. Halo 3 set all time industry sales records.
Halo 3 has sold 9 Million Copies to date. That is Almost as many as Resistance, MGS4 and Motorstorm **COMBINED**.
There are ~28M Xbox 360s in the world.
There are ~17M PS3s in the world.

The "10 year lifecycle" idea is an excuse for being late to market.
