Unlockable content easily accessible through the game, yes, that's fantastic.
But the term "loot boxes" in recent memory has become closely associated with MT's. So I tend to view that as a negative.
If MT's are the only viable option in order to ensure food ends up on the table of developers... then this industry is good as lost. You have publishers raking in billions of dollars. But developers are struggling to feed their families?
That's an issue with the distribution of pay/cost. The fix isn't to destroy the way games are made and place all the financial burden onto the shoulders of the gaming community. We also have families to feed, and if we can't...
What a surprise.
If I didn't know any better.
"And while Gran Turismo may be geared more towards gear heads, Forza 7 is the video game lovers driving game. It's got loot boxes, level up and earnings potential."
Sounds like you're advocating loot boxes as...a benefit.
Yeah.
No.
I am shocked.
Shocked people thought otherwise.
I do adore the game (and the photo mode). But from a critique point of view, of those photos shown, I'd say 1-2 are actually good. *shrug*
Mobile games didn't kill consoles, but the MT nightmare sure found its way nestled into AAA games...
It shouldn't. We've seen wonderful graphics go hand in hand with fantastic storytelling. So when the story suffers, graphics being a scapegoat is tasteless and I shake my head at the notion. A weak story is from a weak implementation (be it in the final product or from the get go in the idea department).
Worldwide?
:) Thank you. Consider yourself purchased. (The story's nothing to write home about, but the gameplay/graphics still ring true - and the characters are pretty awesome).
I think we can all agree. We've got a lot of votes for having no confidence in EA.
That'll be all. *Sips a nice brewed coffee
In the past few weeks, the news surrounding MT's / Loot boxes, has become sickening.
From Shadow of War having loot boxes for "an easier experience *cough*" to Battlefront 2 essentially creating a AAA pay-to-win experience (in its current form), and now Activision's trademark for an algorithm that'll put novices against those with better gear (but don't worry, they "haven't" yet), to SPECIFICALLY entice purchasing MT's/DLC/Loot bo...
Hard-to-earn cutscenes haven't become taboo. The problem is, with the rampant inclusion of MT's, its now brought "the grind" into question. If the gamer feels that it's unnecessarily padded out, and is aware that the game offers MT's to speed that process up, the rational becomes "So they made it this long, so that I feel inclined to consider purchasing loot boxes."
If Shadow of War didn't have MT's, then it would simply be a case...
Sadly the truth. All we can do is ensure we don't support it and hope others clue in and make similar decisions on how it is they'd like to experience their games.

While it won't stop someone from walking past you, and perhaps putting you in an awkward situation (depending on how you feel about nudity, so forth) it will at least let you know what you're getting yourself into.
Actually, you should be an editor. (Not really).
Good eye though.
(But) I will mention two points.
1. Technically speaking, Season Passes can be viewed as cutting/hiding content. Depends on how the gamer feels with the overall story and how much it offers. I haven't played the game (nor do I plan to) so I won't argue this point any further.
2. The Final Act might've taken you 5-6 hours, but that's certainly not what many ...
"Save buying this one until the asking price is at least slashed in half, folks, as you’re going to need the rest just to get the orcs you need."
Shots fired.
Well written opinion/review by the way.
I'll admit, it's gotten out of hand. If a game is going to be compared to Dark Souls, then it can't simply be in regards to difficulty level. It needs to share a lot of similar mechanics or design philosophy (Recent example being: The Surge).
Battlefront 2.
There's a prime example of where the gaming industry is headed. MTs are in fact, having influence on the progression system in games. As for Shadow of War, the end game content is up for debate on whether or not the sudden grind is indicative of enticing the loot boxes.
This isn't a matter of catchy headlines and clickbait articles. There's an actual struggle right now - and you just happen to be noticing more and more people po...
I'd simply add to your point (well made by the way).
- loot boxes in multiplayer should be cosmetic. They shouldn't influence actual stats/gameplay mechanics.
While back in the day everything was essentially free, times changed and now we pay for everything (if the devs/pubs) get what they want. So, cosmetic loot boxes is as far as I'd go on a compromise.
Perfect! Just enough money to ensure I buy everything in Battlefront 2.
