I think collectibles only ever matter to completionists and trophy hunters. After a while it is just background noise to those who really do not care. But the RPG elements of the game served to mix up the combat with more than just a combo list like in previous games. Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics should have been more worried about Spider-man and changed the release date. The fact that the metacritic score is a bit lower this time around doesn't help. David Gallagher's departure to MS probably had something to do with that I'm guessing.
Uh.....for me, SotTR isn't up against just Spider-man. It is Spider-man, Forza Horizon 4, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Dragon Quest XI. All those games within 2 months of each other? My wallet is already getting drained so have to be selective and TR is going to have to wait till next year.

How do collectibles "pad out a game's length" when they are entirely optional? When a gamer picks up a collectible there is no break in the pacing. Atreus makes a remark about it in the background and you move on. Whether or not you wish to find all the collectibles is entirely up to you.

PS4 certainly has a lot of fans on this site. That isn't a bias of the site. That is just a reflection of the number of the installed base of PS4 owners.
Ratchet and Clank is owned by Sony so it isn't Insomniac's game to give away. So If another R&C happens, it is up to Sony, but I think Insomniac is going to be preoccupied for some time with Spider-man. So really no need to keep bringing it up in Spider-man articles.

Meh.....those sections have had no affect on me either way. They advanced the story pretty well but the gameplay was a bit stale. Either way, calling it "polarizing" is a bit much.

It is hard to argue with the results of going exclusive on PS4. This is the highest rated Spider-man game ever and it is going to more than likely outsell every Spidey game ever made. So yeah...…..Spider-man was upgrade all around by going PS4 exclusive.
