it just doesn't make sense. Releasing TR during this period was bad enough, but DQ XI sandwiched in there with Assassin's Creed Odyssey and RDR2 on the horizon? People only have so much money to spend every year. If SE had worked hard to establish the DQ brand over the years and not flake out over western releases all the time then this might be different.
I'm guessing if SE is saying this kind of thing then they are not happy so far with how it is selling.
