@from the beach: That's true, N64 did drop by £100 in May 1997, and it was released in March 1997 in the UK.
However, Nintendo was crazy to release the N64 at £249 in March 1997. It was a $149 console in the U.S. at that time. In March 1997 the exchange rate was 1 USD = 1.6096 GBP. Meaning that in the UK, they launched it at effectively $400! Even after they dropped the price to £149, it was still effectively a $240 console compared to $149 in the US. ...
@DOMination-
It's true that the Xbox had a faster CPU and more RAM than the PS2... but the PS2's GPU was about twice as powerful as the Xbox GPU. I would agree that the Xbox seemed to be capable of better graphics than the PS2, but it wasn't a clear-cut straight forward example due to the GPU differences between the two.
The PS3 and 360 didn't offer a clear-cut, obvious winner in terms of power either (from an on-paper point of view). The 36...
With the PS3 / 360 debate, the big games I remember being used to make the "multiplats are better on 360" argument were GTA4, Red Dead Redemption, Bioshock, Call of Duty, Fallout 3, Orange Box, Bayonetta, and Resident Evil 5.
All of the COD games ran at the same resolution on both consoles except for Black Ops, which was 1040x608 (360) vs 960x544 (PS3): 21% higher resolution on 360.
The Orange Box, Fallout 3, RE5, Bayonetta, (and most other games us...
I have a problem with them proclaiming this as a "low-end" card. It's a 150 dollar card on the low end of the price spectrum for this model. That means that when you build the cheapest possible comparable machine to a PS4, you have to spend about $420 dollars. Here's the cheapest acceptable parts I could find on NewEgg for this build:
CASE & PSU: $34.99

Wow, didn't even realize it was coming to consoles. Cool.
Looks pretty great, actually. I hope this is finally a well-received Sonic game. It kind of looks more like a Ratchet & Clank mixed with Crash Bandicoot type game this time. I hope it lives up to the amount of fun the trailer made it look like.
Presupposes? I do not think that word means what you think it means.
@fanboybeatdown:
Nice try... But that's not a $500 PS4 SKU. It is a $400 PS4 SKU that someone is trying to tell for $500 because of the very reason that demand is greater than supply, opening up the market to second-hand sales being priced higher than MSRP.
You can't just say that these extortionately priced second-hand available consoles not selling means people wouldn't think the PS4 is worth $500. The fact is that the PS4 isn't *supposed*...
On the one hand, this makes you think perhaps the price of games at launch should be lower, or at least that the permanent price should be lowered further and sooner after launch than is traditional these days.
But it does sort of beg the question... if the price didn't appear to be such a shockingly low number in comparison to the usual price, would the droves go out and buy it up as they did? If you could get it for $1 all the time, how many of the people that bought i...
Using a trusty measuring device and a calculator to extrapolate the graph into actual real world numbers, this shows the following data:
PS4 sold 1922 total units between 14:21 and 17:33, which comes out to 9.02 per minute.
Xbox One sold 266 units between 15:18 and 17:34, which comes out to 1.96 per minute.
During the time frame when both consoles were available at the same time (15:18 to 17:33), the PS4 sold 1091 units and sold out (compared...
At this point it looks as though the PS4 + XBO combined have outsold the Wii U, already. Just a couple of weeks into launch for the new machines and they have already outsold the Wii U which has been out for more than a full year and gone through an entire extra holiday season than the PS4 and XBO have. Why combine PS4 + XBO to compare to Wii U? For the reason you should combine PS3 + 360 to compare to the original Wii. Given the huge divide in hardware specs between the PS3/360 and Wii, ...
I liked the game. The story was interesting, the voice acting was good, there was some good art direction, the music was pleasant, there was even some nice humor. The gameplay was fun and the concept was cool. Problems: fairly glitch heavy, but nothing game breaking, and it was a little easy. All in all, it was a memorable game experience for me, so I liked it a lot.
Halo 4 looked great, but it was all art direction/design. The game has probably the most simplistic & sparse graphics in the FPS genre of the entire generation. There just isn't much geometry in the game environments at all. They did an absolutely awesome job marrying a sparse artistic style with smooth graphics to create a beautiful game, but it is far from the most *impressive* game graphically. Flower & Journey are both more beautiful and just as smooth as Halo 4, they are ...
Vita beats the pants off the Wii U for me because the Wii U's signal distance isn't good enough. The two places I would be likely to play on the handheld versus the TV are the bathroom and the bedroom, and where my Wii U is in the living room, the signal doesn't reach far enough and I can't play with the gamepad in either my bathroom OR the bedroom. It works absolutely flawlessly playing my PS4 games on the Vita. The only thing I would change is the controls... the back tou...
API differences are mostly just syntax differences in the code, maybe a difference of some built-in methods for accomplishing certain tasks not being present by default in the other API, but in general, API differences shouldn't make much of a difference to a developer because you can learn one API or another just as easily as you can learn Java if you already know C++. I mean, they are all just languages and syntax and familiarity of in-built functions, but if you can learn one, you sho...
Come on, Aaron. Calling the game / Sony out for referring to Killzone as a "Halo Killer" is just silly and pointless and borderline unfair. That tag was used to describe the FIRST Killzone game, and hasn't been used since. This is the fourth console game and the 6th game overall in the series, and we're still criticizing it for not be a "Halo Killer" when that isn't even what the developer is going for with this franchise?
Let me give you a ...
The PS3 was one of the first Blu-Ray players on the consumer market. That justified the more expensive price point over the competition.
JokesOnYou, I may have misjudged you. You are a reasonable poster, even if I personally disagree with a lot of your opinions. Anyone calling you a shill should probably reconsider. I know I've seen that word tossed around in your direction, and I'm confident that isn't the case. You're just a fan of videogames and Xbox has been your brew of choice. Nothing wrong with that.
Edit: Oh yeah, and have fun tonight with your new machine! I hope you're gett...
I bought Knack, but I've been so busy with Killzone, Contrast, and Resogun that I haven't even put it into my PS4 yet to try it out, but I expect I will probably enjoy it. But seeing as I haven't played it yet, I have no opinion on the game other than optimism that it looks like the kind of game I will enjoy.
But that all said, I just wanted to say that a 3/10 doesn't have to be reserved just for *broken* games. Why isn't it a sufficient score for a just...
@NewMonday:
Are you certain she worked on Gabriel Knight? It was designed by Jane Jensen, but it's possible Amy Hennig was part of the team, but I've never heard that before.
