When with Sony it really is the best of both worlds. You get the money and resources of a big corporation while at the same time Sony gets out of the way and allows for creative freedom.

Microsoft doesn't own the Alan Wake IP. Remedy does.
They are 2nd party as I denoted. Sony does own those IP's.
Microsoft doesn't own Epic Games or the Gears of War IP.

So just like Mass Effect it could eventually end up on other platforms.
They already owned the IP's dude.

inFamous, R&C, Resistance, Demon Soul's, Heavy Rain, etc.

They buy the studios after those teams have proven themselves invaluable.

For instance Media Molecule, when LIttleBigPlanet came out Sony owned the IP, but not the studio. obviously it was a success so they bought them.

A Huge portion of the gaming public started playing video games as kids in the 80's IE The core market. They are in their 30's now.
I think Kinect's success, and w/Halo 4 coming holiday 2012. 2013 is the earliest we will see Xbox 3.
