Sorry, going to disagree with you on that one. It's a 'racing' simulator, not an 'environment' simulator. While not all of the racing environments aren't photo realistic, the focus should be on the race. The car, the track and your opponents.

Read both reviews. The nit-picking in GT5 becomes obvious.
I would say the inconsistency of the game is what bit GT in the ass. It's getting knocked because not every car looks as good as the premium, not every track looks like good as the photo realistic ones, and racing is a grind.
All I can say is don't be put off by the score, read the review. The complaints are consistent enough. All the tracks aren't as pretty as the cars, all the cars aren't as pretty as each other and racing is a grind. Guess GT doesn't suit the style of play for most reviewers.
That's a funny, the con listed pretty much said if you're not a car fan or racing fan then this game has little interest for you. Pretty much the same feeling you get from most reviews scoring it in the 8 and below.
Oh, and Cmoney above me has got to be kidding. Sony fan? Yeah right, he's been in every GT review bashing the game.
I've said it in the other articles I've read. Most review wanted GT5 to be more of an arcade racer. Oh, and complaining some tracks and environments weren't as pretty as the cars. Pretty bad if you ask me. Gran Turismo has always been about the grind of racing.
Pretty sad, GT5 is getting crucified for being a sim racer.
All the reviews who score it low are consistent. They don't like because it's a racing grind and the cars are prettier than some of the tracks. I don't really know what they expected out of a racing sim. I guess those who get it, get it. Those who don't prefer the arcade racing style.
Wow, complaining about background models being used over and over. That is the one of the most insane nit-picks I've seen in awhile. Almost as bad as too much variety....

You forgot stat tracking AND leader boards. That is a BIG deal for any game's online play. Judging by their track record, I'm not surprised that they would abandon fans. Probably diverting the resources to something Kinect related.

I guess this generation is more of the quick fix instant gratification gameplay versus grinding out your win. I look at it as traditional RPG games versus western RPG games. The amount of time it takes to finish the western game is just a fraction of the time it takes to level your character in the traditional game.
