The only person(s) who will stop Sony's momentum is Sony. NO one else can touch them at this point. I am sure that they have learnt from past mistakes, especially when they announced the price of the PS3 at E3 a few years ago. :p
I am an Xbox gamer and I will continue to be for the remainder of this generation. I do await the release of The Last of Us and until then, my PS Plus subscription is used mainly for the free PS3 games and the few PS Vita games that are/were on offer.
The PlayStation 3 was and could still be argued as the complete entertainment package. It was future-proof the day it released (Blu-ray as opposed to Microsoft's HD DVD) which died not too long after release.
Well as an Xbox user, I can see it being exclusive to premium members only. Silver members can't communicate with one another on Xbox LIVE, so Skype being accessible to silver members would be wishful thinking.
And still, though it will be accessible by those paying a premium, they will fill Skype with advertisements. It sucks that we pay and still see ads, but business is business.
Well Skype is available with other Sony devices, including the PS Vita. I haven't tried it myself, but it is available and not restricted to only Microsoft-owned products.

Maybe The Last of Us and the forever-in-waiting Agent will boost some SALES for the PS3. At least they have original exclusives and not something rehashed from 10 years ago, stupid Halo!
You must've missed the part where Sony took Geohot to court because of the PS3 jailbreak. This is also around the time when PSN was offline for over 30 days because of Sony's poor security.

I've read that with the El Gato, your PC needs to be pretty decent to handle the recording. That's the only negative thing I hear about it.
I was overly excited when I got my HD PVR 15-16 months ago. Such a great device and it paid itself off in no time.

As for the accessories you mention, they are optional. If you choose to pay for Kinect or some other peripheral, that's on you.

Sony's consoles work well together. Even though I don't agree with some things, you don't hear many complaints. I download my Vita demos from the PSN Store, from the PS3 and then transfer them to my Vita.
Now imagine if Microsoft had something similar... DRM would kill it before the handheld's battery dies.
