I'm assuming tensions are high from the "PS4 will be better than most gaming PCs for years" thing a while ago. Comments from fanboys on both sides didn't help either.

I don't really know what the deal with the Steambox is. Where does it fit in? If it has exclusives that cuts out the PC fanbase that supported Valve all these years. For just a little extra more you could get a decent-to-good gaming PC. That just leaves playing console multiplats and PC games, which isn't as big of a deal as you'd think considering many multiplats end up on PC anyways. The offer was originally just to help with the netcode and stuff, but then EA changed it and asked if Nintendo would be willing to use Origin and it's interface and netcode. This would also mean that EA would be in charge of the services, as Origin belongs to them. Nintendo declined and now EA is saying they won't be supporting the Wii U. It was a lose-lose situation for Nintendo.

It depends on what or how they say things. If it's 'lol sony/nintendo sux' it's probably a troll. Every console is 'dead' when they first come out. They get some sales and then things crawl to a stop. Then the games come a few months later and sales start picking up. It's almost universally how it works.
But plenty of new IPs were shown at the conference, not to mention we don't know what they've got for E3. Besides, there's nothing wrong with keeping a franchise going so long as things change and show effort. A major reason why CoD is hated is because they are still using the same basic engine from 2007 with only minor upgrades and little effort put in, asides from BO2 which actually changed up how the campaign and class system worked. And even then it's mostly the same aside...
Currently, if you aren't a Nintendo fan there's little reason to buy it. There's nothing wrong with that (who buys a Nintendo console for multiplats, it's about the exclusives) but until the mainstays come out there won't be too many sales. Monster Hunter 3U will give it a spike in sales but the big numbers will start coming in likely when the new Mario Kart, SSB, etc release.
