Why are the textures so bad? I thought this was going to be on PS4/XB1/PC. They have BD, no more being held back by DVD, so what's their excuse for crappy textures? This is 2014!

I don't care what anyone says. I love Konami, but I refuse to believe this was a bug. A bug doesn't cause a game to require online. It's obvious that this was just a test to see if people would be okay with it.

Availability is the problem?
What about:
- PS4 is $100 less
- PS4 has (arguably) better 1st parties
- Sony didn't try (as far as we know) to enforce DRM on gamers
- Majority of gamers say that PS4 controller is better
- Sony hasn't been caught spying on gamers (Skype, NSA, etc)
- Sony doesn't have history of lying to their consumers
- Sony doesn't have a history of rushing their products

EA decides when the game releases though. If EA thought that BF4 wasn't ready, they should have let DICE continue to work on it.
The dev basically does what the publisher wants. The publishers have far too much power over the devs now. Almost any problems a game has nowadays (rushed, incomplete, on-disc dlc, etc) can all be blamed on the pubs.
I already stated this below, but Microsoft has scripts on this site. If anyone uses NoScipt or something similar, try to block just Microsoft's scripts. When you do, you can't comment, rate site, or like/dislike. That may be the link you are looking for. It's not unheard of to try to sway the public's opinion by planting shills moderating comments, after all.
And while I'm at it, does anyone else see a pattern forming between YouTube (Google) and Microsoft...
Don't know how significant this is, but if you look at the scripts for this site (or just install NoScript for Firefox), you'll see that Microsoft is there. If you block Microsoft's script(s), you can't comment, Like/Dislike, or even rate sites up or down. I'm sure there's a reason, I have my theories, but I just thought I'd share that.

Why wouldn't Activision allow the game to be made for Linux when Steam is going to roll out the new Steam boxes? I'd imagine it wouldn't cost a lot to port it.
I would think it would be because of a small userbase, but they're porting it to Mac! C'mon Activision!

My point was that the textures shouldn't be highly compressed to fit onto a DVD. And just look at FFXIV! The textures look great! Or even Planetside 2!
I have an HD 6570 (1G DDR3) in my PC and am able to play Skyrim with mostly 2K textures at 1080p. So are you trying to say that the current-gen consoles are less capable than that?
And catering to the lowest common denominator shouldn't apply for textures. You can always have a setting to lower the res...
