For me Demons/Dark Souls have been the best games I've played this generation - came out of absolutely nowhere and just blew me away. Dark Souls 2 cant arrive soon enough!

It's not that logical - how can devs test how their games operate in an offline environment if they were to be forced to be always online?
How do you simulate dropped connections and how a game recovers from that situation if they're forced to always be online.
The whole point of a devkit is to be as representative as possible to the users own environment - makes no sense at all for them to differ so radically.

Spin it however you want, but the thing about all press being good press is not true in cases like this - gamers feeling nothing but ire and apathy towards a console ahead of it's launch is most definitely not a good thing.
If what he's saying were true, MS would have "won" this generation as the 360 is far easier to develop for than the PS3 (and I suspect the Wii) but it didnt happen.
Next generation it sounds like the ps4 is just as straightforward to develop for - as other commenters have already said, did he miss the ps4 annoucement?

You couldnt preorder a 360 till several months after announcement also - I remember waiting impatiently at the time to get one guaranteed for launch

Really? They had actual games to show. They had the hardware nailed down. They had services well into development.
All they didnt show was the case - do you really think its the casing that makes a console? If so, I dont know what to say to you.
All they changed was the quantity of RAM - this is nowhere near as big a deal to the overall architecture of the system as you seem to think it is - if they changed the CPU or the type of RAM then that would be something else but thats not the case.
I dont see whats wrong with it either - it leads to a better, more future proof console. I'm not sure why anyone would criticise them for that tbh.
