And from what I read all the Bluray players sold so far will be obsolete when the 1.1 features are released on the new players. Not enough ram in the old players to run all the new features.

In todays game market it makes no sense to make a 3rd party exclusive unless you are paid to do so. I would assume this lump sum would be to make up for the sales to be expected on the rival console.
The 360 has the largest install base for next gen games.(I don't count the Wii bc games can't be ported without a severe downgrade.) For games such as FF and the Metal Gear Solid series the budgets are most likely huge. 3rd parties look at how much potential return they can have...

companies will always have to cater to the "hardcore crowd". Because these types of gamers are the consumers that purchase the most games. And also they purchase them on a consistant regular basis.
A good example of this is the 360 gaming demographic being considered hardcore. And having a games attach rate of 6.2. The Wii not so much. I would imagine there are a lot of gamers like the older couple in the photo of the article that could remain happy just with Wii...
Hardcore gamers already make up a very small percentage of gamers. People like us on N4G are the minority.
Most people are casual gamers that even bought a PS2. Most people that bought a PS2 bought it when it was cheap. These kinds of people are the ones who just buy EA Sports games every year and don't know about HD and Bluray, HDMI...etc.
Sony just got too greedy this time around. By incorporating Bluray in the PS3. They are banking everything on the PS3. Sony was so confident that their loyal fanbase would buy PS3 they just pass off the added cost of Bluray onto them.

are definately some cool shots. The Metroid franchise is a staple for Nintendo's portfolio. I find it hard to classify a bunch of polygons or 2D sprites as "hot"though.

games ever since the NES days and I think the term "Fanboy" came into fruition when Microsoft joined the console race. The PS1 and PS2 were the big kids on the block. And I guess these devout groups of console owners were on the defense if you will.
I do prefer XBOX but can also appreciate a good game for PS3. And I also very much like the Wii.

Sony set the standard themselves. By making rediculous claims of super computing powers of the PS3. "Next gen doesn't start until Sony says it does". 120 FPS.....the list goes on and on.
They claimed all of this massive superiority but everything I have seen is just average and not anything technologicly superior.
