Not THIS article, about the articles this article was referring to. Too lazy to bring up those n4g article postings from Sunday that were saying the PS4 wasn't selling out. Launch day was Saturday and they are writing articles saying "teh PS4 iz duh failz in Japan". Dolts.
The xbox fanbois that write these alarmist articles have been doing stuff like this for years. Day before launch: "OMG! Look at all those boxes. Those will never sell out! (that is my secret wish)".
Those alarmist articles failed to take into account this was the first launch with online pre-orders and the effect was people didn't have to wait for long times in a big line.
Of course, these same alarmists cover their eyes and go la-la-la when it ...
XBO - pay more for less
Smart or stupid?
The eSRAM on-die was a carryover of the architecture that was used for the triple-core PowerPC CPU in the 360. Innovative at the time, archaic by the time of the XBO. Not sure why more people aren't noticing, but the XBO is a bog standard low-end gaming PC in a cable TV box.
That is why Cerny is so genius, he is the Lead System Architect of the PS4 and he made those hard decisions to design for completely contiguous RAM architecture, no more of this segmented memory bull...
Those pictures are cool in sequence. Looks like mostly just store employees and then the crowd gets bigger and bigger. The Japanese are orderly but that line to keep it single file looked like over reaction to the EU launch, lol.
This is the first console launch that pre-orders actually worked and it was the first time for a lot of people where the pre-order got shipped to their house versus having to go down to a store to pick it up. This is going to be the first console launch for Japan where Amazon JP got huge allocations, so they are also going to experience what its like to get a pre-order delivered to your front door. There will still be huge crowds trying to get launch units off the shelf. It's just a tradi...
Remember when the xbois weren't bothered by MS keeping their FCC results secret, and they were saying it was because of a secret 2nd GPU? LOL!
You would have to be blind to see this is not the MS that was there with the 360 launch. MS Games Studios is almost a ghost of what it was, multiple IP's, devs and titles all crushed into non-existence. It's down to 4 first party studios and Rare looks like it might be down for the count. Almost every level of Xbox division...
These analysts are going to be a bit low. The official 5.2 million PS4 sold through was as of the end of January. We are in the 3rd week of Feb. and the Japan launch is this week. If Sony is delivering 1.4 million per month and it sounds like the Japan launch may be closer to 2 million than 1 million, then this will mean 7.6 million at the beginning of March. Even using conservative numbers, these analysts are still too low. The PS4 is hitting at the right time with the right price.
No, this is because you got on a nonranked server. The ranked servers are getting busy and more filled up all the time as more people buy PS4 and BF4. For whatever reason, EA keeps unranked officials servers up and they take you back to the beginning default config plus makes it look like you lost your battlelog. It is only for that server, just keep quitting and doing a quick match, eventually you will get back on a ranked server and all your perks will be back. Just EA doing their thing.
Last Guardian probably got too big and detailed for the PS3 to do it justice. The devs probably tried to shoehorn it into the PS3 but ran into too much optimization code. The choice probably came down to cancel it or re-do the development for the PS4, without a whole bunch of power limitations. As long as there are progress reports after E3, a 2015 release would be just fine.
Sony has already said there will be a big firmware update after the Japan launch. It's understandable, they want all the launch units at their most stable and common with each other before doing a big post-launch firmware update. Sony is fully aware they are still in a launch and coming to the closing of the major launch window with the launch in Japan. This is in contrast to MS that seems to have forgotten they are still in some kind of launch window of their own, debating when or whethe...
The news that XBO is struggling with sub-HD and the PS4 is doing 1080p/30fps easily is going to be headline after headline from now to E3.
Some people can't see the obvious. The GPU in the XBO was obsolete when it was chosen. MS chose to finalize their design knowing this, hoping to launch before the PS4. That didn't happen because the on-die eSRAM caused yield problems. Sony decided to wait the few months for the next generation GPU and made the big decision to go with a bit more expensive, but contiguous and faster RAM. Sony also knew they would be adding in a companion processor with its own CPU, GPU and RAM, capable ...
Good thing for a videogame console to provide choices:
jaggy or blurry
720p@60fps or 900p@30fps
Netflix w/ gold or Facebook w/ gold
Man, the PS4 gives no choices, just sharp, amazing 1080p@30fps and multiplayer and apps with no paywall.
Sony has usually taken the high road, except for some quick jabs here and there and sales numbers were never that big of a thing for them until Microsoft entered the videogame console business. Even then, the reference is if sales goals are being met. It seems even Sony realized starting off games conferences with endless slides of sales figures and market analysis are snoozeville, so it was very encouraging to see their presentations since the Feb. 2013 PS4 reveal. Sales analysis kept to a m...
They don't need to be fired, they all left. The head of Xbox Europe just resigned the other day. The new Xbox division head is from Nokia phones. Phil Spencer and the guys at Turn 10 are about all that's left from the original Xbox. Rare is in a Kinect coma. MS destroyed their whole internal games studios. MS is starting to show the signs of a company that is walking away from a product line.
The numbers haven't been released by NPD yet but it means NPD subscribers have seen a January summary that says PS4 sold double the XBO for January. This should shut up the Xbox fanbois that bring up all these ridiculous, fictional scenarios like the PS4 is being supply limited to artificially increase sales. LOL! You have to be in desperate denial to come up with that one. Yes, the PS4 is supply limited but it is still outselling XBO by double the numbers. And the Japan launch is next we...
WTH? Redesign the controller for one game? Aren't MS saying they need to recall the controller that is shipping now with launch units? This is truly bizarre, MS is agreeing with Respawn that the controller they are shipping is defective. This is going to blow up as another PR fiasco.
The problem is MS needs Titanfall to keep the XBO alive, so they are hyping it to all hell, just look at the flood of Titanfall "articles" all of a sudden. Nobody is saying it is a bad game, just that it really doesn't look that much better than Call of Duty Modern Warfare and the XBO version is definitely gimped compared to the PC, especially since 1080 at 60fps should be no problem with a higher end gaming PC. Video gaming is about having a choice and a lot of PS4 players are ...
It will be interesting to find out the 24-hour and weekend sales numbers. That was what was ridiculous about those "PS4 not selling out" article/postings by the xbot fanbois. The first full day it was on sale was Saturday. Here is Monday and the news is that Sony is sending the second shipment. The PS3 sold 500,000 in Japan over two days and it was seriously supply limited. Online ordering is a big factor this time around, possibly equal to retail.
