...not really my "argument." That part was just my personal preference. Survival mode is one of the game's only saving graces, but it's still not the same as playing through arcade. Arcade is a way to get as close as possible to playing regulation rounds over and over. Survival can certainly help with fundamentals, but arcade does a better job of getting me ready for competitive play because of the round structure.

And the arcad...

It's just for the social aspects. A large portion of the MMO "experience" is mellow enough that you can just sort of veg out and play with your friends without worrying too much about concentrating.

Overall though, I agree with Ruggadagod. MMO's suffer from the same stagnation that other gaming genres suffer from nowadays. Even the best "updates" just add a slight flavor variation to the same boring MMO chores.

Arcade mode is a VERY large part of my process for becoming familiar with a fighter, actually.

The whole "competitive" argument is really becoming a thorn in the side of gaming nowadays. What would be the point of jumping from SF4 to SF5 if SF4 is still mechanically one of the best fighting games around, and STILL offers all the basic modes AND extra content?

You can make a mechanically competitive fighter with goddamn stick figures, for god's ...

...I'm sorry, who could possibly disagree that this is hilariously cringe-worthy?

@Jonboy_5000

Well then the real question is...what makes this better than SF4, a game that still has quality AND quantity?

...better graphics?

And how is it that so many other franchises are able to cram in both aspects, but Capcom apparently can't do anything but release another bare-bones-but-mechanically-so und iteration of THE most lucrative and celebrated fighting franchise there has ever been?

Yeah, I'm calling BS politics here. I loved RotTR, but the story is about as cliche-ridden as stories come and it takes itself WAY too seriously for the setting.

There are several other game stories from 2015 that should have won before Tomb Raider.

Yeah, the Unity engine is really starting to show it's seams. Firewatch has similar issues with frame rate and stuttering.

It's very intuitive and stable for less complicated games, but seems to be hard to optimize with more complicated stuff.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, dude.

I think it's funny that they left it in. It's been around since the early footage of Chun-Li.

It's like they have their own gravity fields.

It's funny, I'm in the camp (that I am coming to realize is bigger than I thought) that thinks MGS1 is one of the best games ever made, but the rest of the MGS series is just so-so.

...but even despite that, I respect and admire the man because he is sort of the paragon of what a developer with integrity and vision should be. When you play a game that Kojima is a part of, you get the impression that he has not compromised his vision just to appease some greedy publish...

What's sad is that it has become truly ingrained in the culture. I work at a High School, and a LOT of the students genuinely do not understand why I get mad at that kind of crap because it has been standard procedure for as long as they have been gaming. They like pre-order perks, they see nothing wrong with season passes, and the thought that DLC could have been removed from a game so that it could be resold later sounds like a conspiracy theory to them.

They buy into ...

You know, I respect that people love their classic games enough to even attempt these remakes, but I'm getting slightly tired of reading about all these open-source-engine-projects that are obviously never going to see the light of day.

This particular score aside...let's just think about this for a second.

I seriously doubt there are many situations in which pubs outright bribe journalists for good reviews(as in..."here's a thousand dollars and our game, give it a good score), but if you really believe that these companies do not find scummy legal methods of pressuring sites into giving less-than-credible reviews, then I truly feel sorry for you. Pro-tip: it's not just gaming journalism and...

I felt the exact same way. It's one thing to still enjoy a game despite it's technical shortcomings, but when these reviewers completely gloss over those issues (for whatever reason) then they are fundamentally missing the entire point of a review.

Molyneux is a man who routinely flounders to get his games done, much less get everything in them that he promised...so I would say the less advice about the actual PROCESS any aspiring developer takes from him, the better.

He could probably be a valuable resource for game design and conceptualization, but game production...I would look elsewhere.
