I'd never even heard of the 3rd Birthday, to be perfectly honest.

Now that I look it up, I recognize the cover, but I never knew the title.

It's pretty great, actually. I suppose for people that feel compelled to pigeonhole and compartmentalize everything they play/watch/hear into categories, DE might feel a little frustrating. But for those that don't really care what medium it falls in and can enjoy it on it's own terms, it's a great two or so hours.

It's basically a psychological horror story. And I promise, if you take the time to look at everything the answers are all there, though exactl...

It's basically Fable mixed with MMORPG. It's got great combat and one of the best character building systems around, but as with most MMO's, if you take every quest that pops up it's going to feel a little tedious and mundane. As in, "go here and kill X" or "go here and collect Y." It's a bit strange for a singleplayer game to function the way KoA does.

Still, the story is actually pretty interesting and surprisingly intricate if you ta...

I didn't give Tim Schafer $1 million. I gave Double Fine $15. And considering their history and recent output, yes, I think $15 is a reasonable gamble. To tell the truth, though, I don't really see it as anymore of a gamble than buying a conventionally funded game that I've never played before.

I think the "charitable" portion of the donation process is what's sending some diehard corporate junkies into a tizzy. Charity is what it is. I like Tim Scha...

Didn't think the shout-out to Kevin Pereira was warranted, but I agree with the article.

G4 is just SpikeTV 2. Even Attack of the Show seems to be tailored to appeal to the "male stereotype" demographic.

...but then you get shows like Cheaters that appeal to no one, and you have to wonder if maybe the station is being run by a retarded monkey...

I don't know why it has to be one way or the other for everyone. There are games that have benefited from minimalistic narrative and games that have succeeded solely for their narrative. It's all a matter of how the game is designed.

I really don't see the dilemma here. He's debating the very essence of "donations." I wouldn't be "donating" money if I felt like I was entitled to some money back, and I'm not "donating" money because I'm positive I'm going to love the final product. This is a much deeper commitment than a simple economic transaction.

Personally, I donated as much for the idea of foregoing bullshit publishers as I did for the actual game ...

It's true that Gamestop is a con-job (their mark-ups are basically criminal), but it's just fundamentally wrong for companies to have that much control over products that have already been purchased by consumers.

This isn't a matter of Gamestop vs. the game industry. Almost everyone knows that Gamestop is a complete rip-off. Secondhand sales encompass EVERY change of the hand a product makes prior to it's sale. That means no direct secondhand sales (such as on...

Kurylo, you really have no idea what you're talking about. One of the most basic tenets of a thriving industry is secondhand sales. The auto industry allows it. The electronics industry allows it. The clothing industry allows it. etc. etc. It's one of the most basic rights consumers are afforded in a free market. Plus for whatever reason, the entertainment industry seems hell-bent on ignoring hundreds of years of evidence that suggests secondhand sales actually STIMULATE the market. ...

No, I'm sure Nintendo cares about as much as Activision does about the CoD series. And yet, that matters very little to me. That only proves that people have a very high propensity for swindling sales tactics and a general weakness for reliving the old days at the expense of progress.

^And yet Resident Evil 4, probably the most notorious reboot of all time, is still the best regarded Resident Evil in the entire series.

Hypocrisy is not some kind of logical proof. It's still a crying shame that generic space/military shooters can be endlessly re-released. That doesn't change the fact that the Zelda series needs to be rebooted because at this point, it really only appeals to that relatively small group of individuals that has no problem indulging in ...

Well firstly, WRPG's have been popular just as long as JRPG's, I promise. PC gaming, prior to the last two generations, was equally, if not more popular than gaming on consoles, and that's where the vast majority of WRPG's fell during the late 80's/early 90's. They have simply been "branching out" these last couple of generations due to the waning popularity of PC gaming.

To be perfectly honest with you, though, I don't see what mainstrea...

Screw that. I don't need asshats frolicking around, CONSTANTLY breaking the immersion.

Screw all this "game X should be an MMO" bullshit. Let singleplayer games be singleplayer games.

I'm honestly not trying to insult the list (because it is the AUTHOR'S list) but it's about as far from what my list would look like as you can get.

For one, the lack of ANYTHING other than JRPG's is a bit...confusing to me.

That's the problem with releasing a demo this early. Everyone here talks as if they have a complete understanding of the combat in KoA, when in fact the beginning only provides a very basic model of the mechanics that can be unlocked as you play.

And why, in the name of all that is holy, do games ALWAYS have to be so superficially compared to one another to the point of bias? I mean goddammit. Dark Souls is a COMPLETELY different beast than KoA.

Still though...screw Kotaku.

Because a used game has already generated a sale. A lent copy has already generated a sale. And in both instances, it is a single copy of the game being re-distributed.

A pirated copy does not even need one initial sale to be spread around freely to thousands and thousands of people.

Don't be ridiculous.
