I don’t understand the issue, you play the game the more you play the more xp you earn and skill you gain by meeting the challenges and then getting the reward is genuine sense of achievement, nowadays average gamers just want everything on a plate perhaps watch a movie or read a book instead.

Yes but Sony as a manufacturer of hardware and heavily reliant on hardware revenue won’t want to give any percentage of sales to its competitor, however small the loss of sales may be.
I only see this happening if Xbox completely vacates the console market meaning Sony has no competition for hardware sales.
