Not really a win win, they lose anticipation and surprise. At E3 the consumer mindset is to get pumped at watching the extra long gameplay videos/trailers, but if they show that gameplay now people will have seen it already and it will have much less effect. The gameplay in tandem with a speech or the usual mumbo jumbo about the game creates a better hype than a long YouTube video you watch on your phone.

You're forgetting all the pregame hype, straight from the mouths of bungie, as well as the many cut areas which you can see are playable in gameplay demos. There's just too much to not see the potential this game had that was thrown away. I enjoy destiny, but it didn't live up to expectations in terms of depth, not length, which is has plenty of.
