There were other issues with the game, which forced the closing, not microtransactions. However, playing the game now vs. A year ago, without the paywalls, makes the game infinitely more fun and enjoyable. You couldn't progress without purchasing power ups, or grinding for hours. I have been playing all weekend and having a blast.
Blizzard. They have little to stand on. Monthly subs to play a game, loot boxes. They partake in horrible gaming practices too. Valve, blizzard, ea, take 2, Activision and others are all part of the problem.
For people that love the system, it's far from a failure. I've got a huge library of great games, and still need to get some that recently released. True, it never hit mainstream success, but it has been solid release wise and continues to have great releases. Of course, 5 years in, it will run it's course soon, as people jump to the switch. It has had a great run, and has some epic games on it. Plus it has backwards compatibility with psp and ps1 and crossbuy, and crossplay and...
The pro and Scorpio should have been released at the start of the gen. They are where they should have been power wise. Hopefully, next gen they will stick with the traditional route and release one powerful machine from the get. The iterative systems don't work for consoles.
The most expensive game I've seen was phantasy star 2 on the genesis. It was 90 bucks at good guys. Even then, that was a one off price. The barrier was 49.99 until the 360 brought it up to 59.99. I've never seen n64 games for 100 dollars in my area, even at funcoland. They must have been price gouging. Lol.
Just like the vita, which ironically is constantly decried for having no games, I'm sure the xbone has plenty of stuff to play if you own one. The backwards compatibility is a big plus. Unfortunately, Microsoft is not funding the risk of new games as they did with the old Xbox and 360. That is why I'm not interested in getting one. There's no reason for me to get it for better multiplats.
Unfortunately, 60 bucks is pretty much the psychological barrier for a game. There's not too many people that can justify an 80 game. 60 dollars and some dlc they can get down the line is fair.
To be fair, if you want one, it seems like a great machine. But if you already have a ps4, it's a real hard sell to get one for just third party, and a handful of exclusives. I don't even feel the need to get a pro, much less the new xbone. They screwed up not investing in games.
That trailer intrigued the hell out of me. It was a glimpse of some of the great story that will come. Expanding the lore and introducing more characters in a loved franchise is jarring to fanboy idiots. I can't wait for it.
