Shhh, subtle level design can't be discussed in these posts. Platformers are all alike. That's why all those Mario knock-offs on NES and SNES are so fondly remembered.
Game makers, listen up. Spend money on visuals, sound, everything but the gameplay and level design itself.
As a primary but not exclusive wii gamer, I'll have to say the ps3 people here destroy the xbox folk and I tend to vote them up despite liking my ps3 better.

I forgot about the DS game but it isn't nearly as good (while I still enjoy it a lot). I bought a DS after the wii for it. So it's still 16 years? Regardless the handheld title is much less satisfying in terms of level design and (obviously) multiplayer.
This article is basically saying "Aero the Acrobat is a platformer, Mario is a platformer, so why is Mario better? Aero is cheaper!" New mario has extremely subtle level design. It's something that's been missing ...

Read the quote, it's talking about the next step for nintendo being more than HD. He says it will happen when they have provided all experiences to the consumer from the existing wii, which he says they haven't come close to doing.

lapsed gamers are another notable market you completely ignored in that ignorant assumption. they specifically talk about them all the time at nintendo. NES/SNES era gamers are later 20s to 40s now. That is not young or old. It is mature.

The wii was specifically designed to appeal to lapsed gamers who left after SNES and NES. Saying you guys went to xbox or ps3 ignores everyone who left and never came back. Research shows (Miaymoto comments on this in nintendo dev interviews on Super Mario 5) that the wii and ds succeeded in this. Hence it is better suited on wii.

Finally a company has the sales to figure out a sh!t load of us miss 2d games. I have never finished Mario 64 and I owned it for n64 and now DS. I beat NSMBwii in two weeks of 28 hours total playtime, getting all star coins.
