It's on steam. Kickstarter has been used as a way to guage interest for a long time now more then to actually cover development cost. Maybe epic approaches them after seeing the kickstarter? We don't know all the details. But to me it seems like a no brain choice to take sure fire funds for a game as a starter company to cover development costs. It probably allowed then to do more with the game having the extra funds.

It was never billed as any big thing. They stated exactly what it was. You didn't like it that's fine, but it's exactly what they said it was going to be.
I bought at launch, took the refund (which they never collected, and then price matched at first 30$ drop. Made 30$ "buying" the game. I'll play it once Ps5 patch is out.
Well you don't actually own the game in gamepass so it would be silly to charge for an upgrade on something you don't own.

@Gamer Gamepass is only proving to be great for developers while Microsoft cuts giant checks to them and keeps taking a loss. Let's see what developers think when Microsoft inevitably cuts the losses. Either the money going to devs has to go down or subscription cost has to go up. Wonder which will be first.
Yeah I don't see any kind of gta competitor coming from a brand new studio unless it's on a much smaller scale or takes years and years to develop. Rockstar is huge and it still takes years to develop a game.
