This is more talking about the home console market, though. Handhelds are a different thing entirely...
$$$$
Single-platform sales is no longer really enough to give a decent return on big-budget, high definition games like FF13. I'm sure they'd make their money back as a PS3 exclusive, but say when FF13 hits the figures are 60:40 in favor of PS3 - 60% sold on PS3, 40% sold on Xbox...
Or even 70:30 to PS3 - those extra 30% of sales is going to be vitally important to Square Enix, especially after how much FF13 was delayed and how much it has cost to develop as a result...
Tell me about it; CB looks badass and what I've played was badass too. Gonna be a close call.
PS3 in 2009 before the end of the year in Japan.
Day and date on both consoles in the West sometime in Spring. I did an interview with Yoshinori Kitase (Producer) and he confirmed 3 discs for 360 with identical (720p or upscaled 1080p for gameplay) rendering for both versions.
I know this is the fan-flaming channel, but them's the facts. 3 Discs is still a lot, though.
I can't confirm anything but I'll 'suggest' that the box art will probably be the same in Europe.. no idea about the US, though.
26th November for Japan, it's mentioned in the boxart article, was announced yesterday.
It'll be before or during May.
Crystal Bearers is definitely playable. :)
While the first set of screens on UFFSite.net were from an older build, the second set (in the "Even More Graphics Changes") were from Square E3 2009 PRESS KIT. E3. New.
No prob. :) Another little tidbit that I didn't put into the stories: There will finally be a skin colour option in character creation!
Still looks superb! And FFXII looks even better. Wow. This game will be amazing looking, I'm sure.
Different screens, different lighting, different areas. One thing about FF13 is that it uses two sets of models - one for gameplay (lower quality) and one for in-engine cutscenes (higher quality) and then there's the CGI cutscenes.
Chances are these screens may be using different models to the ones in the article - as shorter cutscenes use the gameplay models, while longer in-engine cutscenes use the cutscene models.
FFX and FFXII both used the same systems. Hell, ev...
Personally, I believe the early shots of the game were bullshots, and we're only now starting to see the (slightly jaggier) truth. I don't think it has to do with multiplatform stuff.
FF13 still looks amazing graphically, it just doesn't look as great as something like Gears or Uncharted.
If that's the case, it's a lie - the second image came out on the Advent Children Complete Blu Ray, before ANY footage of the 360 version was shown - the first 360 Footage was shown at E3 2009, after the Blu Ray went to print.
Bear this in mind people! Only the 22 characters are playable! (Heroes and Villains from FF1-10 and Shantotto from FF11 and Gabranth from FF12!
This is a bit rubbish really - it's not even a complete list. Many party members and important characters from every FF show up in small cameos - but none of them even have 3D models.
Oh, and the Ninja/Monk are merely forms of FF3's Onion Knight. Luneth is the SAME CHARACTER as Onion Knight - not a different one - and the ar...
They do realize that Activision could just use their copyright status of the name & trademark "Modern Warfare" to TAKE it from them?
People did this with FinalFantasy13.com, and Square just sued 'em.
Where are all the PS2 users going? To the Wii? DS? PSP?
While the lack of PS3 titles is worrying (as the news story implies - where are all these PS2 users going? To the Wii? DS? PSP? Not to the PS3, that's for sure), the 360 isn't getting any games in the chart at all, so they both appear to be struggling - just Microsoft is struggling a bit more.
The bundle is pretty good value, but the only problem is it's not a special edition PSP with FF printings on it like Japan got for Dissidia - just a normal PSP - and the game will probably only come in a cardboard sleeve inside, like the Ratchet bundle... :(
I thought many of their exclusive (or timed exclusive) RPGs were great, but they really failed to grab audiences in Japan as the sales prove.
