i actually think upscaling of ps3 games is a bigger ps3 seller then ingame xmb. ingame xmb is important but for the 80 million or so ps2 owner upscaling becomes a serious proposition to upgrading to a ps3. imagine the selling point: "all you ps2 games looking like they have never looked before".

sony will give a 80gb sku for the price of a 60gb so it is quite unlike ms charging people in excess of 100 bucks for more capacity.. this increase in capacity doesn't mean an increase in price - unlike microsoft.. this has no similarities with the Elite since the Elite costs a lot more than the premium for an overpriced hard drive and soon to be obselete non-1.3 HDMI connection.

it will be discontinued i bet since there is about a million and a half of them lying on shelves right now, sony will not be making any more 60gb sku once they are sold. and therein lies the problem: sony is actually going to give new customer a FREE UPGRADE but where does this leave people with 60gb sku? the intention is honourable but it will send the wrong message to existing owners/prospective buyers of the 60gb SKU. it is too early for sony to come up with a new sku.
it's a matter of cost. 60gb drives are no difference in cost to 80gb drives but 100gb drives is more meaningfully expensive. it doesn't cost sony any money to go to 80gb.
why? because US/EU consumers need to be convinced that they are paying less for a product that has a smaller hard drive capacity. They will need a sweetener to buy a product (60gb) that is going to be superseded. whether sony intends to replace the 60gb is neither here no there since in the mind of most people the perception is they will.
there is actually minimal cost difference between 60gb and 80gb - probably 50 cents in manufacturing cost. so i don't think it cost sony anything to provide a 80gb model and this is why they will discontinue the 60gb model. sony is probably trying to say that unlike ms we are giving customers extra disk space for the same price. People should appreciate that more disk space will always be better than less. At some point developers at the cutting edge will always use the maximum disk space you give them - this is a fact of life. Computing capacity has always grown over time. i think you missed the point of my argument. i was specifically saying that eventhough the xbox360 version of pes6 is rather light in terms of features it still stacks up (appaerently) 7gigs of disk space so anyone who says 18gig is impossible should really need to reconsider. not saying that 18gig is necessary i am just saying that on record konami do seem to need a lot of space. maybe they should learn more on how to compress data.
