Make no mistake, Sony is the one who needed to cut prices out of desperation all along. At this point with as well as MS has done, if they cut the price it won't be out of desperation, it will simply be out of smart strategic planning to be at a lower price point than the competitor.

I don't think anyone is expecting the PS3 Slim not to be a hot seller right now. This is the time when many of those legions of PS2 owners who didn't already switch loyalties to Xbox or Wii will get a PS3. Of course I'm sure there are those waiting for it to get to $199 eventually. $199 is the true magic price point for a console, at least if we look at history it is.

I don't understand why companies are always so quiet about this kind've thing. I can understand why a company would keep quiet like Sony did about unveiling a Slim model, since it has more impact if it's revealed in a big announcement. But if there's going to be just a simple price cut, don't keep quiet about it, shout it to the masses and get the word out there so everyone knows!
Nice try Saaking, but you're talking about the Pro model and the Arcade model. You're trying to SPIN it to look like the Pro went from $399 to $199 when it's simply not the case.

MS is far from desperate. Sony is the one that has slashed prices in record time from its console. There is only one reason they slashed them so quickly...desperation. Sony will overtake MS in monthly sales for the time being, because there have been A LOT of people waiting for the Slim. Hell, I'm even considering getting one when the time is right for its Blu Ray and a few exclusives that I want to play. Probably not, but it's a possibility.

As far as dominating the market like PS2, yes it's too late for the PS3 to do that. They've simply lost too much market share to the other two for that to realistically happen. However, I will stick by my previous prediction that now that a cheaper PS3 is available, its monthly sales will pass the 360s for the time being.

I would love for Live to go completely free. By the way spokesman, wait and see if PS3 can pass the 360 before saying that MS got raped. You will see a big spike in PS3 sales, but they may not pass 360 sales. Either way, Sony's glory days of PS2 dominance are over for a long while.

Personally, I think all of the failure rates are higher than they truly are. I don't believe the PS3 failure rate is above 10% like the article suggests, and I don't think that the Wii failure rate is 6%.

Maybe the secret is the big E3 reveal/teaser trailer. It didn't help that this was also originally going to be DLC. But who knows, while it won't be Halo 3 sales numbers, it may still surprise you. It may be one of the highest selling exclusives this year.
