I thought Mass Effect overall was a really good game. RPGs have never really had great satisfying combat except in a few rare cases like Diablo, and those usually only vaguely resemble real RPGs. I have high hopes for Fable and Fallout.

Graphically it looks pretty sweet, but WTF is up with that gameplay? Like seriously? Is that supposed to be fun? Hopefully that's just like the first minute or two of gameplay, and then you get a bunch of sweet Diablo or Devil May Cry style powers or something. I'm putting this one in the Too Human category of poopiness for now.

NG2 wasn't nearly as good as NG1, and PS already got NG:Sigma. And DoA is sort of like SPED Tekken (SPecial EDucation), sooooo... Yeah, who cares?

MS isn't trying to beat Sony with better games by doing this. All they're doing is defeating the purpose of that competition. Good competition would be if MS went out and made a NEW fighting game to compete with Tekken, and tried expanding their user base by having BETTER games, not the same games. This is just lazy business and easy money. Whatever amount of money they threw at Namco to buy the franchise rights could have been dedicated to development of a new IP. Unfortunately, new IPs cost...

Microsoft has a killer handful of exclusives coming out this x-mas. So it's not like they're not making any of their own games. Maybe Gears and Fable aren't your thing, but their production values and technical merits are top notch, whereas Tekken (while being the greatest fighting game known to man), isn't exactly an exhibition in the power of a system. You know? KZ2 will probably be a little more impressive, and MS probably isn't going to get a port of that any time soon.

I find this particularly irritating as an owner of all three consoles. When I went out and bought my 360 it was for Fable, BioWare, Ninja Gaiden, and because I think shooters play better on the 360sticks. When I bought my PS3, it was for Metal Gear, ICO, Final Fantasy, God of War, Tekken, and GTA.

So I bought these systems for specific games before the games were even out, knowing that I already wanted to play them, and that I liked them on that system. I think most people did th...

Maybe it's just the low quality of that video, but I can see multitudes of graphical inferiorities. The first one I noticed is the very mild, if not utterly absent, specular lighting effects. I noticed this in particular during explosions that seem to not cast any light on neighboring surfaces at all. The smoke and fire effects are also somewhat crumby especially when you consider that COD2 had such incredible smoke effects and Frontlines looks to be spitting out maybe 10 sprites a second. Th...

The developers never said the 2005 trailer was gameplay footage. Jack Tretton did. And presumably that was because he didn't understand the difference between in-engine and gameplay. He does finances and PR, not computers.

You know, these pics didn't really impress me all that much until I saw that fourth one. That was a "holy $#!t!" moment. I look at these and wonder what it's all going to come together as. They put the bar so high I can't even see it anymore, you know what I mean? This game looks so hot I can't help but wonder what's holding everyone else back. I mean, knowing what I know about the PS3 GPU and the 360 GPU, this game doesn't make sense. How in the hell did they squeeze all this blood...

Every time I hear about some really clever new feature or execution in a game it makes me nervous. Not because I don't think it's an incredible idea, but because I think incredible ideas frequently result in incredible failures. These guys sound like they're going to try and present players with Kubric/Hitchcock quality suspense and horror. That's a really high water mark, and a really long way to fall. Here's hoping for the best in their success.

Supposedly the 360 is getting exclusive DLC and the PS3 is getting "go f*** yourself". If you have a PC that would probably be even better, because then the DLC might be free, and you can get fan-made mods and crap.

Do you ever feel like Fallout 3 is like if Gollum stole your old buddy, Mad Max's skin and wore it to your Christmas party, and it was really obvious, but you figure, "Hey, The Lord of the Rings was a really good movie too, so maybe it's okay that Mad Max didn't make it this year."?

Or is it just me? o_@

I heard that about the endings too, but I also heard that the tallied number also includes every variation of character accoutrement too, like what beard or jacket you're wearing when you finally beat the game. That would dramatically reduce the number of endings there are according to a gamer's definition of an ending I think.

Well I don't like YOU, and I don't think YOU deserve a 9!

Oh wait, I don't even KNOW you... WTF am I talking about?

Fallout is to date my most beloved series of all time. I still play it, and use the fan-developed megamod to get just a little more content out of it (shameless plug). I also loved Oblivion (despite some purely wretched voice acting, game ruining glitches, and harrowing repetitiveness). But when I look at this game, I'm filled with an unreasonable amount of anxiety. That might sound really weird, so let me explain a little.

Let's pretend that once upon a time, back in 1997 you s...

Admittedly, I am among those people who don't fully understand the potential of Cell, but I do know that the defense contractors at Ratheon and Textron were deeply interested in it for the purposes of simulation renders. I know this because my family works at those companies. HOWEVER(!), they also had hesitations because the Cell is extremely complex and generates an incredible amount of heat, and so the companies were trying to work something out with IBM to buy Cells in bulk for product tes...

Listen, I'm all about the PS3. I love Sony. I love their products. I even own their stock. I also hate Microsoft because I despise their business practices. I've had 2 RRODs on my 2003 model 360, and my PS3 barely even stutters, but Bioshock just plain looks better on the xbox. And I'll tell you why.

The graphics card on the 360 is superior in design to the one on the PS3. It distributes graphics processes across all of its pipelines evenly, which allows for redundant lighting r...

This should reek of BS even to people who have never heard of the source site. Every first world country on the planet has aggressive laws to prevent this sort of shady business. MS would have a class action lawsuit on their hands involving every member of every development firm that fell apart over this, and would lose much more than 16B. That's not to mention that they would be breaking federal laws stateside, which would force federal courts to step in and restrict MS's business (AGAIN), a...
