To say that I agree that consoles are about games will sound silly coming from someone who bought the PS3 because it was the only good blu-ray player that was reasonably priced and performed well at the time. Now, with so many devices that do the auxiliary services already attached to my TV, it is the games and hardware capabilities that drove a console purchase this generation.

I'm not too worried about the hard drive size, and I think going physical has a lot to do with it. For physical reinstalling a game is a matter of seconds to a few minutes before you are playing, not hour(s) like like digital. Game saves take up minimal space, and all the games I will be playing with any kind of frequency at any give time will fit on the 500GB drive.

So I'd say the only people having real issues with HD space will be people going "digital"...

@Kayant

I would be very surprised if XBox One does not support DirectCompute.

That is a far cry from being able to do direct captures which can go for more than 15 min, have better quality, and can be shared as you see fit.

I think the competition between them has resulted in two great next gen systems being released this month, instead of a single "incremental" system.

MMA fighters, muay thai fighters, etc. can have insane amounts of respect for opponents while pummeling the crap out of each other in the ring. Why is it so hard to believe that the Sony and Microsoft higher ups could also have sincere respect for each other as well?

@MaverickStar7

I think I know the town you are talking about.

It is all the more frustrating for its residents because Verizon was scheduled to roll out Fios there. Right as it was about to happen, Verizon decided rolling out fiber did not make business sense and cancelled all new deployments.

I remember most people in the area having at least two or three big players competing for dollars, with prices and service reflecting that, except for...

While more wireless devices will cut down on wireless capacity available for each device, the bottleneck for most people is still their Internet connection, even with many devices on the same access point.

Just because his connection is rated at 12 Mbps does not mean he actually gets that speed.

When I had paid for a 20 Mbps connection on Verizon, I got those speeds consistently with everything for which you could reasonably expect.

With Bright House I have at least 15 Mbps, but it is a crap-shoot if I actually get that speed, most of the time I don't. (For example, it struggles to keep up with Netflix streams which max out at 7 Mbps when that is the only ...

Let's add support for the PS3 Blu-ray remote to the list.

If you don't want it, why not sell it for a profit instead of canceling the pre-order?

Oh, because your prejudice and predisposition against the PS4 is obvious, and you probably never had a pre-order to begin with.

...And the video is already off YouTube due to a copyright claim by Sony.

Too bad. They had been doing so well with PR in instances where Microsoft was dropping the ball and being draconian.

... But he can play his games without a patch. :)

I don't see the 500GB as small enough to need to upgrade. People usually only stick to a few games they are playing at a given time, and the system can hold at least nine games for instant access with plenty of room for all your saved games.

Swapping something back in from blu-ray it seems takes less than a minute before you are playing.

It will only be an issue if you opt to purchase "digitally" and have to wait hour(s) for enough to download,...

I think this is more the American/NSA terms of service of using any communications technology than any Microsoft or Sony terms of service.

And yes, it does matter.

Why do people think Steam is better than what Microsoft was trying to do?

Let's consider Steam a game system (and it looks like that may be the case soon) and make some comparisons:

Microsoft's proposed XBox One system
--------------------
All disc purchases become "digital" purchases upon install, and "digital" purchases are of course still "digital" from the start. There is limited family sharing and le...

DRM stands Digital *Rights* Management if I am not mistaken. Here is the strange part:

- Companies have no right to dictate what someone who buys something does with that purchase.

- These technologies, by design, prevent people from doing things with their purchases that they have every right to do.

Notice how with "DRM", no rights are really being managed, only the restrictions companies would like to place on purchasers of their...

The listed was cancelled by the seller because "there was an error in the listing."

Wonder what happened. Did he sell it under the table, angry letter from Microsoft's lawyers? Maybe it wasn't ever real?

Ok, I'll troll. ;)

The negative for me is that it shows Microsoft is using a 3 GB of memory and 10% of the GPU for stuff I don't care about, and it takes a hit on gaming performance having to keep all that stuff in the background for instant access on an already less powerful system.

It shows that a lot of those resources used for non-gaming functions probably won't be coming back since it would sacrifice Microsoft's vision for the system. T...

The real question still remains:

All other graphical aspects of the game being the same, would they have been able to achieve native 1080p with Ryse on the PS4?

That, of course, should not be the REAL question in determining the system you get, but for this "resolution gate" discussion, it is.

Since the architectures are almost identical, those same tricks can be used by PS4 developers.

Those tricks would have to involve the 32MB of high speed ESRAM, but that is only 0.4% of all the memory in the XBox One that is only slightly faster than all 8GB of main memory on the PS4, with the rest being significantly slower.

I'm not saying it's impossible for the XBox to leverage that with software tricks, but just don't get your hopes up on it ...
