I don't think I will ever be ready for games that are designed around grinding so you want to pay not to grind, putting the "free" label as if their customers are among those suckers who are born every minute, or developers who are going to obscure the real cost of getting a good and complete experience out of the game.

For every "free" to play game that might otherwise be good, there is a better one that could have been made if they just focused on ma...

Of course we play games, not brands.

That is a great mindset to have, but unless you are going to purchase every console, you will be picking a brand, and the subjective question of which system one should get still remains.

I like a lot of the world that surrounds the dungeons in the Zelda games, and would hate to see it taken out.

Wii U may not be the "next gen" level hardware we were hoping for, but I can't wait to play the Zelda game for it that is in development.

I think blood, as the article suggests adding, just crosses a line in a Zelda game.

The E3 demos set a great tone for the next Zelda, very detailed yet still having a nice artistic quality.

"Ps4 is stronger and easier to develop for and that's a fact. You can't change that."

That is a pretty blanket statement.

The evolution of developer tools over the life of the platform can make a big difference in ease of development. Even if we were to take as a fact that the PS4 is easier to develop for today, that does not mean it will be true tomorrow.

I don't think even XBox One fans (well, those not in fan-boy mod...

Basically, this allows developers to create a single big texture, like that of a terrain, and instead of having to keep all that entire texture resident in memory, (or split the asset before shipping and write additional code) have an automated process that loads and unloads subsections of that texture as needed.

If Kojima mandated no exclusive content, do you really think Konami would choose to tell him to take a hike and lose the sales revenue and quality he brings to the series?

You can't blame him for what Konami wants to do, but you can say this key person is in the position to really take an effective stand against a practice that is pretty universally hated by gamers, and failed to do so.

Voting with your wallet is easy when you have not already bought the game.

This is the type of change that should entitle people who have already bought the game to a full refund of any money they have spent on the game, original purchase price plus any MT/VC money spent, if it would have affected their original purchase decision.

Backface culling does not save memory (nor increase its use), it saves rendering time. It just determines early that a triangle will not be visible, and does not waste cycles drawing and shading it.

Pre-baked lighting requires additional textures (or, more often than not, larger textures than would have been required if the lighting was calculated at runtime) to be resident in GPU accessible memory.

"LOD textures" i...

They don't really store 6GB of texture data in 32MB, they just bring the parts of that texture that they for a given view point into memory, which can be a far smaller amount of data than having to keep the entire texture resident in memory.

The question is whether an extra 32MB (‪or 0.03‬ GB) of RAM on the XO that is 9.1% (192GB/s vs 176GB/s) faster than the 8GB of DDR5 in the PS4 can make the system more powerful or compensate for the fact that the other 8GB of that memory is 61.2% slower (68.3GB/s vs 176GB/s).

And what happens when you realize you have spent the price of a regular game, and are only half way through it?

4571d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

I want, at minimum, a complete and meaningful experience, and preferably, 100% of the game for a fixed price.

"Free to Play" is built on concealing the real cost of getting that complete and meaningful experience out the game. That is even with the best case scenario of the game actually having an end when it is released.

A funny thing about people is that once they realize they have already spent a good chunk of money towards something, even if th...

If a franchise is going to move in the direction of micro-transactions, than yes I do wish low sales (actually, zero sales) on that franchise.

Having a gaming eco-system with a few less franchises is better than having one dominated by micro-transactions, and that is a vote I will make with my wallet.

I'll spend my valuable time playing games that don't want to nickle and dime me.

Nothing has ever stopped manufacturers from producing PCs without bloatware. If they REALLY want to force software onto their customers, they will do it. It happens with Windows, it happens with Android, and if it comes to valve either having to facilitate manufacturer's ability to integrate their bloatware into Steam OS or not have them build SteamBoxes, you can bet it happen with Steam as well.

Now, they could make it easy for people t...
