I think the current situation calls for people who like the game to step up and just say so. I'd want to prefix my review with "F those guys" too, but at the end of the day, I'm thinking people just want to hear the opinion.

Not to be a downer, but Famitsu does give pretty much anything 7+. You have games that get 9/9/10/8, but when they reach our shores they land on 50 on metacritic.

That being said, I apparently liked the game more than any of them. It's worth trying out for sure!

Just once I'd like for one of these late reviews to not mention the previous reviews. Reviewers should deal in video games, not the buzz surrounding them. It also makes it seem like you're writing to counter someone else and not just represent your own opinion.

< 5/10 scores are beyond me too

Even better title "Review of the things I've read about The Order: 1886"

30fps is likely entirely unrelated. It didn't seem to hurt Uncharted.

And can we dispel this myth that it's five hours long? If you complete it that quickly, you're part cheetah, part overlooking everything. Six hours is more likely. I spent seven and a half (without dying much)

And how does this article explain why reviewers were harsh? It comes off more like another review, written by someone who write like they haven't played the game.

I think it's the new IPs that arent's quite settling well.

New IPs (and Metacritic rating):
Knack | Mixed reception
Sunset Overdrive | Favorable
Ryse | Mixed
The Order | Mixed
Driveclub | Mixed
Titanfall | Favorable
Project Spark | Mixed

2 out of 7 were favorable

Old IPs
LBP3 | Favorable
inFamous: Second Son | Favorable
Killzone: Shadow Fall | Mixed

I've played Driveclub a lot. So yes, as opposed to you I've seen what it ACTUALLY looks like. Don't even try barking up that tree--it looks incredibly beautiful.

And the thing about the post-processed images are that they're often more representative of how the game looks in action.

Another thing about it, is that it does look the least impressive when the sun is in the middle of the sky and there's not a cloud in the heavens. It still l...

If it weren't, they'd call it "The Order".

I wonder where the next one is gonna be set. One would think 1887 or something, if they're going to continue with Galahad, but it could be set pretty much at anytime after King Arthur.

It needs to be said, I hope it's not gonna be an Assassin's Creed thing, where the sequel is awesome, but from there on out its minor tweaks and new locations that are the only differences. Take your tim...

"Project Cars looks like a real contender and we've no room for sub-standard games."

I'll bite. What exactly is it that looks great about Project Cars at this point? Tracks range from well known to generic (as opposed to Driveclub). Graphics are clearly not what they were trumped up to be (as opposed to Driveclub).

That game is going to have to handle like a dream (like Driveclub) to deliver.

No, I'd like free Drivecl...

Played it twice and loved it. 9/10
But I must admit, I didn't mind too much that it's short.

If I did, I guess I'd score it lower.

I stopped noticing the black bars pretty quickly, but I can't argue with how nice it looks without them.

They've almost done so already. Reviewers that ordered The Order (ha!) online were the first to review them this time around because of the embargo. That and the leaks.

@InTheLab

It is, though. The criticisms typically directed at The Order, from what I've seen, is the ones the author lists. So why isn't QTEs the worst thing on earth in The Walking Dead?

One theory is that people nitpick more when they're not convinced by the story or the characters. I thought the story in The Order was more than worth being convinced by, so I didn't really have to wait impatiently for the next shootout. Had I hated the narr...

I disagree with that. No other game does atmosphere like The Order. Some of the action sequences are pretty spectacular too, and I like the gunplay and the story.

4134d ago 2 agree2 disagreeView comment

Walking Dead is a perfect example. It's absolutely a QTE game, the choices you make have no actual bearing on the story (they just flavor it) and that's it. Not only is that it, but Walking Dead Season 2 got extremely well reviewed in spite of being built on a formula now used with little to no change in FIVE different Telltale seasons.

I love Walking Dead, but I can't understand how Walking Dead dodged these criticisms and The Order didn't. Maybe the people w...

No game is bug free, I guess, but in these "every game is broken on release"-days, it was nice to play through a game without encountering a single bug.

I like scores. They make reviews easier to aggregate (so that it's possible to take a quantitative approach to finding video games). They're also perfect when I'm actually in the store, checking reviews on my phone.

What I've learned from The Order: 1886 reviews is not to ignore a game because it receives mediocre reviews.
