That's still a bigger pool of customers than Sony has access too. You also act like Windows 10 gaming will remain stagnant and it can't realistically improve.
I would bet money Microsoft has a better chance of getting 150-300 million active users from combined sales of Xbox/Win 10 than Sony does by just selling PlayStation consoles.
Because how would you continue console wars If Microsoft has a prospective base of over 300+ million vs 100 million with SONY.
There is vastly more money in pumping out as much software to as many Windows 10 devices including Xbox as possible.
Just because they looked at the mobile industry doesn't mean Microsoft is forging ahead with a tick tock strategy. If you want to be honest Sony looks more like the mobile industry than Microsoft. The Neo which is really the PS4.5 is coming out 3 years after the PS4. The Xbox Scorpio which is really the Xbox 2, is coming out 4 years after the Xbox One.
So they plan on launching PS5 what 3-4 years from the Neo which will be in 2019-2020? By then Xbox Scorpio 2 will be launching. Or do you risk alienating Sony fans by launching another 3rd system that's more powerful than the NEO in 2017-2018?

All a console is a plastic box with highly PC architecture. That is literally it. It it weren't consoles there would be something else, unless you seriously believe people would just quit gaming all together.
