While it wouldn't benefit consumers the X1 will still be a success regardless of the restriction and requirements. How? Mainly because the average consumer either don't know/care about requirements or restrictions.

Honestly the whole thing seems like a terrible gamble, to me. The 360 sold over 77million consoles, 40 million of those console buyer used XBL at some given time. Now that leaves 37million never getting online or using XBL. So MS is willing gamble almost half their consumer base to push this new agenda.

Gold is more a ripoff compared to PSN because its giving you access to services you already pay for(this doesn't include online gaming) for $60. Some services are free on you PC like facebook and twitter but in order to access it on your 360 you have to pay for XBLG. This is what the author is trying to get across.

Honestly Double Helix would've been one of the last developers I would trust with a game.
I would rather MS hand the project to a developer with experience with fighting games. NetherRealm would've my number one choice. Unless MS would've got all the people back from the old Rare team that left to do the project.
