The only public display of arrogance Sony displayed in regard to PS3's potential was a couple of misquoted comments from Phil Harrison back in the day about PS3 not being a games console anymore and deviating away from gaming altogether.
Microsoft have Aaron Greenberg, enough said.
But from an unbiased point of view, Microsoft have always been quick to tout Sales = Success and take a dig at the competition, when it isn't even the market leader. That alone is blur-vis...
Not really a moot point for Xbox 360 Arcade Owners who miss out on that content unless they pay for a Hard Drive though.
HDD needed to be a standard. I agree with not having a standard HD-DVD drive at the time the hardware was released, but a non-standard HDD not so much.
a few games I will miss not having on my now sold 360, Mass Effect 2, Crackdown 2 and Alan Wake will be fantastic I'm sure.
Very competitive year ahead for all 3 companies though I think.
I'm not hitting wikipedia for this so I might be slightly out.
Mistwalker's startup funding was partially financed by Microsoft with the condition that Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey would be developed as Xbox 360 exclusives. They own both IP's but not the studio itself. And appear to have given permission for Mistwalker to develop Blue Dragon plus for DS which is weird.
Mistwalker also confirmed they're doing an Iphone game too. No way a Microsoft first-party studio w...
were set up with financial backing by Microsoft, and part of that deal was Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey's exclusivity, not that it did much good.
Mistwalker could bring any other projects to any other platform if they wished, Lost Odyssey 2 sure, but not the first.
is about profit. I believe the Xbox division was operating at a loss for quite some time anyway.
And sure, Microsoft are one of the worlds richest companies, and got that way some might say by overpricing their products and services.
But what nobody can doubt, is that Microsoft have the balls to use that money to back ideas that will benefit consumers. Natal is a huge example. Handsfree gaming has been explored before (Hello eyetoy!) but Microsoft are gambling on it ...
@ SixTwoTwo - This isn't something Microsoft have created that was a direct inspiration from another businesses's work.
@ Rockleex - Sarcasm isnt easy to see on the internet
But on topic. I've always been an avid fan of this idea. A lot of hobbyists and independent developers work very hard and there are not a lot of platforms for them to get recognised in the industry. This is one of those platforms and a rare opportunity. Not taking anything away from Sony's Play C...
Necessarily label him arrogant, all executives come off that way, it's called PR, I remember Phil Harrison when he worked at Sony telling people PS3 wasn't a game console, and the uproar it caused, yet the comments were right, it is more than just a game console.
Greenbergs right to be arrogantly confident about Halo Reach, it's halo, like it or hate it, it sells systems and Microsoft will be relying on that game next autumn as a killer app.
And true, PS3 has quite l...
But most I know that thought that blamed it looking dark. But that is KZ2's art style really. The levels did get kinda samey after a bit though.
As for Brink, we'll see. I have hopes for the game but atm I'm not seeing the innovation.
PS3 sold to the casual because of brand association.
What Saaking was describing is why it sold to the hardcore.
But now given the price drop, the casuals are noticing the better technology and exclusives and are moving over/buying a second machine.
1. Natal will allow Microsoft to take a "2 consoles in one" approach
2. Nintendo will pull out of hardware and bring their software to other platforms next generation
3. PSP 2 will be digital downloads only.
4. PC gaming will cease to exist by 2012
5. Activision CEO Bobby Kotick will announce a "free gaming intiative" plan for 2010 fiscal year and beyond.
6. Square Enix will bring Final Fantasy VII remake exclusively to the Xbox 360 platform f...
That too.
At least with a ps3 you can buy the damn thing used. Swear 90% of the pre-owned 360's on store shelves are either dead or modded.
Wrong analogy. Could be put better.
MS sell consoles because for some it hasn't come off the high of being the first one out there. It came out a good year or so ahead, people who dont read gaming websites only saw a cheaper xbox and the xbox brand. they went for it. Now those people are seeing it the other way, so they have cut price.
The analogy would be they've had the weed, now they've got the munchies. :p
Except in my case I can't afford the munchie...
That there would be a ps3 model released sans blu-ray drive.
I'd take his words with a pinch of salt, he's throwing any old prediction out because that is what he's paid to do.
He has a long history of being incorrect.
Especially first party ones, have access to superior tools and in some cases superior game engines. Brink never had a chance from the off.
I wouldn't say the people praising it initially were all "xbots" or whatever people use to flame 360 owners these days.
Halo Reach? meh, maybe. Bungie supposedly have a new engine Microsoft shipped to developers not so long back, guess we'll see at the VGA's.
just keeps on rollin'.
I want to see some more of this thing already, and Doom 4.
I appreciate the approach id take of not blasting us with teaser movie after teaser movie, but with the amount of quotes they've had attributed to them, they should show something soon.
don't mean much if the gameplay is bland. Brink looked pretty bland to me for gameplay, was just another FPS, I'm waiting to see what sets it apart from every other shooter out there.
Killzone 2 wasn't exactly unique, but it's dark art style was appealing.
Slightly off topic, but while I can talk to a bunch of ps3 fans in one thread... :p
I'm trading my 360 for a ps3, largely because It's RRoD'd twice and im out of warranty now and dont want a third really.
I got a budget to get 4 games, 2 of which are MGS4 and Assassins Creed 2, anyone wanna suggest me 2 more? :p
Okay, on topic.
I always thought Sony didnt market their console enough in the first couple years, it is about time they started a ...
to strike a balance. Most Japanese games use japanese technology or japanese themes as an aesthetic setting. There are three key elements that would make a hot-selling JRPG in the west
- The storytelling of Final Fantasy, and I dont mean emo kid finds love and fights, i just mean the ability of those games to draw you into its plot.
- The roaming and accessibility of Shenmue or Yakuza, these games were classics in their own right, they werent strictly RPG's, but you ...
Neither PS4 or Xbox One will have BC that cost's $0.00. Microsoft aren't going to give you the Xbox 360 games for nothing to play on them.
Sure, if you already have them then great, but not everybody does.
I think both features are great, but in all honesty PSNow has a lot of potential when they get the price and content right.
We've seen a lot of people migrate from DVD's and Blu-rays over to services like Netflix and Amazo...
