in 5 months ps4 has sold over 1/3 of what xbox has sold in 4 years. I can remember not to long ago everyone was saying Sony was doomed and were going to have to split up their company into pieces to even keep afloat, how the times have changed. It goes to show you what smart and more importantly genuine leadership gets you. Almost everyone that is a "suit" at Sony is a gamer that is actually passionate about what they create, not just about their paychecks
Ubisoft is nothing like EA and you sound heartless by wishing their demise. The head of Ubisoft has been fighting a hostile takeover for years from a heartless company like EA and still they soldier on creating new IPs. No other company has made as many new IP as Ubisoft has this generation.

Read up on your history. this is exactly the same scenario as with the ESRB. Gov threatened to step in and regulate them over violence so they created their own board to regulate and rate games. Pretty much all major publishers are members is the company that runs the ESRB.
They also are members of the ESRB's organization and there is nothing shady there so why would you think their involvement here would be?
They mean in sales that year. Xbox is a dud so they will at best sell 20% that leaves 40% for each which is reasonable based on current trends
ok I can see thinking maybe wild and deep down have been cancelled, but how on earth do you jump to that conclusion with days gone? we've seen fully finished levels that have a polish about them that implies the game is probably ready for an early 2018 release, and the company behind it was just announcing that they are expanding and moving to a bigger building, so if anything that implies they might be starting up a second dev team like naughty dog did
I like how a lot of the same people screaming boycott EA are here saying why not get both?
It's not us being fanboy, it's us doing exactly what you suggest with EA speaking with our wallets. When Microsoft invests in studios and giving a big and varied portfolio of games I'll happily buy it, till then I can care less to slightly more defined sweat on character models

You are missing the point entirely. They are saying niche games (most of Sony's games that aren't 3rd person action games) would never get made because they can't sell enough to justify. Sony makes these, which yoshida has gone on record to say they lose them money, they make them because they round out their portfolio and bring in varied demographics. If Sony wasn't supporting their own system they'd be doing exactly what Microsoft is currently doing...

yeah I am hoping I can use it to make some short animations and put them on youtube. Never had skill with working in 3d and dropped out of college for it a decade ago so would be nice to be able to tell little stories

Well it is good that production is increasing I think they are taking a bit TOO far. I would say best case with infinite supply they would sell 15-20 mil in 2018 (I don't expect a price drop till 2019 at earliest, or if like the WIIU ever...)
So if they sell 20 million but produce 30 million, at 200$ cost per system that is 2billion dollars that they are throwing away for the year that would be better used making more games.

I can't claim to read into peoples hearts but I can tell you that with certainty people like Yoshida aren't there for the paycheck alone. Cerny, while creepy, clearly is passionate about what he does. And I think it comes down to pride, not in a negative way, in the way it is linked with honor and how the Japanese care a great deal about their honor.
As for your concern that they will take their foot off the gas, yeah that is a valid concern, fear of god...
