What? MS just gave a press conference on the matter.
That is what this story is.
What are you talking about? Denial much?
This should be pretty clear.
This human stopped buying CDs when I still had 56k dial-up. And, havnet bought a DVD in many years.
"but physical albums are still being purchased by the masses"
Riiiighht. Because all the news of collapsing CD sales was just made up. Uhuh.
The Digital Download revolution has killed the CD, and DVD is next. You can (though, I imagine you're probably smarter than this) buy another plastic medium, but the rest of the masses arent.
They arent going to start replacing their DVD collections. And, they arent going to just buy BR for no go...
IPTV is everything on demand.
Click "Movie, select Romance, Click "When harry met sally*", Click Play
Not exactly a challenge.
*What you're inept user would likely be watching...
You're both dead wrong. Half of present internet traffic is *already* P2P / bittorrent downloads.
Give it a rest. The Age of Digital Distribution exploded during the days of Napster.
The present format is already Digital Distribution.
"FREE, small-in-size MP3 downloads didn't kill the music CD."
What? Perhaps you've missed, but the prices on CDs have plummeted. Dedicated music retailers are all but gone.
Download services like Zune.net, itunes and the like are putting CDs out of business.
Yeah, the CD is dead as a doornail.
BluRay == MPAA / RIAA == Sony.
Could you repeat that in english for us?
Why do I have the opinion that you'd be singing a different tune had the two firms reversed roles...
read comment from wow14 on the second page.
The problem is the resources required. There is a lot of resources already occupied *without* the in-game-xmb, the Game Developers can't give up any more.
Dont bother, this forum wont read things like that.
I thought jellycar was worth some time too.
With a built-in-level editor that could even more fun.
And, whoever did it, has a nack for art design, try changing the renderer.
I got a real good giggle from that game.
Go check it out right now, its in the games library.
You're going to see an explosion of small teams (college kids) busting out of nowhere with new games.
Games ideas born of pure creativity and talent, and not accounting and business plans.
The prospect of writing a game that can be played on Zune, Xbox 360 and Vista is appealing to people.
If they're are bad games, who cares?
This is a meritocracy. The best will rise to the top.
Open, and non-hierarchal.
Saying "Oh, a lot will be junk" just doesnt matter. MS is giving away the tools to create, and providing an infrastrucutre for distribution.
It is a fluid and organic distribution model. Totally awesome, it's game changing, and the industry (especially nintendo frankly) should be worried.
I dont think many people realize what a big deal this is. Clearly the industry, and the press understand.
But this is going to be a direct-to-the console distribution of games.
Small, innovative, inexpensive games. Portable between Vista, Zune and Xbox 360?
Straight from people to people. This is industry-busting stuff. A Threat quite honestly to the traditional economics of the whole industry.
Sure, they are just small games, bu...
Resistence == Snore.
Mediocre.
Right, because the whole world fell in love praising, giving game of the year awards and bought Resistence over Gears of War.
Rigggghhhht. Keep sniffing that dust buddy.
This is the sales for the 3 GTAIII titles:
Grand Theft Auto 3 11.60m
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas 15.25m
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City 3,179 7.86 14.20m
See that? The add-ons outsold the original title.
So, while you may (pretend) to not care, clearly it is a massive amount of gamers who are going to disagree with you.
