No one is going to stand for expensive BR players. The price is going to plummet now that the mass market will move in.
There is no way that the PS3 would *EVER* be price competitive with similar priced BluRay players.
You can buy BR drives *right now* for like $250. 51/2 drives for $150.
They'll be less than half that in 12 months. Will the PS3 cost $150 next xmass? no.
Many people are not going to leave their DVD investment for nothing. The price matters a lot.
People are complaining today about the high price of BR discs. The masses arent going to start buying players until they are affordable.
Besides, you can buy Samsung BR players for less than $250 today. Players will be much much cheaper in short order.
Heck, BR drives for PCs are about $150 today. Now that HD-DVD has been discontinued, the computer ind...
Three reasons off the top:
The PS3 is too expensive for a movie-player.
(you can get Samsung players for about $250 today)
The PS3 is noisy.

You know, that is *incredibly* interesting. Maybe they are avoiding in-game music becuase they want to only allow DRM-controlled music?
The Guide is about much more than "Chatting" with your friends.
This is the gamer zone, perhaps you should become familiar with what the Xbox 360 Guide and LIVE offer before you say you "dont need it on the PS3".
The fact is, you dont know what you're saying you dont need.
Why doesnt the PS3 have in-game XMB?
"Xbox 360 reserves 32 MB for the system. The remaining 480 MB (94%) is completely available for games to use how they wish. The 32MB of system memory is used for the kernel, device drivers and the Xbox 360 Guide, which includes friends lists, voice/text messages, achievement lists, gamercards, Live Marketplace, 1-1 chat, virtual keyboard, and the music player. For CPU reservation, core 0 is completely available to the game, and the syst...
The issue is resource reservation.
The PSN and the PS3 OS arent built in the same way as LIVE and Xbox360 OS & Guide.
This is mandatory reading for anyone who is interested in understanding the situation:

"I read that and I think LBP on a larger scale, anyone else see that? "
No. LBP will have an in-game level editor, and a distrubtion scheme. Like what The Forge is in Halo 3 from months ago.
XNA is totally new games, distrubuted on many platforms, that are creator direct to gamers.
It *VASTLY* lowers the barrier to entry for Developers on the Console and Handheld gaming market.
Never before has such a streamlined, dynamic...

Tell us son, if you buy UT3 for $50, what license to distribute your game do you have...?
And, can you derive fees for distribution? Does UT3 run on Zune? Can you distribute those games for profit?
The bottom line? UT3 has nothing to do with XNA as a development environment or The XNA Community as a distribution model or XNA as a cross-platform development solution.
Apples and Oranges. What _is_ your point?
No.
MS hasnt talked about the how much and who will pay for the games themselves.
The XNA dev. environment is free to use on your PC. And, the games are free to play on the PC.
To move the games to your Xbox, you must pay $99 to join the Creators Club. This provides you the ability to move the games from your PC to Xbox 360.
But, as of yet, MS hasnt said how non-creators (gamers) will do to get access to the games. Will it be one-...
The cream rises to the top in a meritocracy. Pure 100% innovation.
A community-driven incubator for pure gaming joy.
XNA is more than a library, it is a new mode of game distribution. It is totally game-changing.
Sounds like sour grapes to me.
XNA makes flash look like arse. For starters, Flash is vector based. Flash isnt a videogame system, its a chotchky engine, for elementary looking games.
XNA isnt. Further, the XNA Community system is ground-breaking an a totally disruptive event in the videogame industry.
That is why you're scared, that is why the industry hasnt stopped talking about it. That's why the business press is talking about it.

I totally disagree. I see epic victory here.
Marvel is over-played. Over done. Over exposed. And frankly, tired.
When you say "Generic", I hear "New Opportunity, New ideas, New motivations, New universe, new everything".
I dont want to be some 2nd rate superhero in a universe with spiderman, hulk and the other "true" superheroes.
By moving into the Champions Universe, we *players* have the opportunit...

I think it's pretty clear what has happened. Crypitc, looking to replace City of Heroes / City of Villians with Marvel Universe Online saw Marvel kill the deal.
Now, they've taken that same game, taken out the Marvel IP and replaced it with the Champions Universe.
Frankly, I think its terrific. Marvel has too much baggage, and they've also been pretty terrible with regards to IP claims (like, trying to trademark/copyright the term "supe...

And, here from Wikipedia:
Does that sound "half arsed" to you?
Did they say how many people would be added to the game world?
They did say that there are "thousands" of AI NPC, but what about gamers?
It would be cool if you play a gang of thugs, and sneak up and jack another group of thug's and their loot.
Why would you prefer to play alone? That doesnt make sense.
Actual people are going to be vastly better opponents and vastly better co-op players.
Dont worry, this game is going to be stunning. How much fun do you think Burnout Paradise would be if you were driving around the city by yourself? Its the interplay and interaction with other players -- actual competition -- that makes the game so fun.
Every genre of game is going to explore these ne...
The market is going to wait for the price of stand-alone players to decrease.
Many homes dont want a videogame machine in the living room, and the gameplayer is forced into a 2nd room, or a bedroom.
The reality of the market is far more complex than "oh, everyone is going to pay an extra $200 because they want a ps3"
