he has not created anything, he's just evolving a genre that already exists.
lol at people saying that some reviewers don't understand art just because they have a different opinion than theirs. But this is the fanboys for you.... -__-
Anyway, we still need to support games like these if we don't want more of the same like COD clones every year. Beyond is just a difficult game to review but I thought it was pretty enjoyable. 7.5/10 would be my score due to the lack of choices that drastically changed the narrative's outcome like in Heavy R...
the charm of Heavy Rain was in the fact that you could mold the story and make it your own. But in Beyond you might be able to change how an scene is played out a little bit but will still be the same outcome for everybody.
So you liking Heavy Rain doesn't mean you'll enjoy Beyond even though it has better acting, writing and graphics.
this isn't a game that is easy to review because just like a movie it depends only on your enjoyment of a narrative. Another thing is that Beyond has a very weird but interesting kind of story-telling, so it was obvious that some were going to like it and others hate it because it was not what they were expecting.
Why do you think games like Pokemon and COD always get good scores even though they all are simply more of the same over and over again?
Heavy Rain was more bold and unique than Beyond. Beyond is more limiting and has less choices that impact the story in any meaningful way like you could in Heavy Rain. The writing and acting are better than Heavy Rain's though, most likely because of the lack of choices compared to it. The way the story is told is quite unique but it could turn into a double edge sword because is not what people are expecting. That's for sure.
I think it's gonna be the other way around. Small websites are gonna praise it while big ones will destroy it. In particular Destructoid since in that site most of the staff hates David Cage with a passion.
I wish Capcom did something like this and ported SFIV to next-gen consoles too.
developers mold their vision around the limitations of the system and it always been like this with console games.
indirect quote from Nomura about FFXV: "Mainly, Nomura seems excited about the fact that with the enhanced memory of the PlayStation 4, pre-rendered environments are no longer necessary. This is especially important in an Action RPG since there is much emphasis on speed and fast paced action. Thus, (mostly) everything is in real time, you will always have co...
all you say is true but you're forgetting about one huge factor... That the PS4 has more CUs for ALU. That diminishes any advantage the XB1 might have with the CPU.
XB1 only has 12 CUs (14 with 2 disabled) and if devs dedicate any of them to ALU then the renders will be greatly affected. Meanwhile the PS4 has 18 and the recommended balance from Cerny is to use 14 for render and the other 4 for ALU. You can still use all of them for render if you want but after 14 CUs each...
I wonder what's wrong with this review that nobody's approving... RPGfan is a website that is as old as IGN, and the good thing is that they don't make money off ad revenues and promotions so their reviews are the most unbiased you'd be able to find around the net.
don't even try to defend this crap. The series has awful story and characters. The only reason is popular is because of the cute art and incest.
Most anime in Japan becomes popular just based on its art and nothing more, even the otaku themselves has admitted it on multiple polls on 2CH. But this trend really exploded like 5 years ago with animes like K-On and Lucky Star, and now like 80% of the new shows we get every season are just moe, mostly some shallow ecchi/moe.
from my perspective Japanese gamers have the most awful taste ever.
was it even playable? I remember trying to connect the Dreamcast online but I was just a kid and didn't even know what I was doing... On top of it didn't even know English.
Always wanted to play Phantasy Star Online but couldn't. ;(
that the fact that the PS4 has integrated power supply might mean that it uses less power than the Xbox One, which is what MS is talking about. They say they went with DDR3 and esram because it was less costly and uses less power than GDDR5 yet the PS4 is more powerful, smaller and cheaper.
the reason the PS4 has 8GB of unified GDDR5 it's because that's what developers wanted. But if you put slow memory like DDR3 then you would have to speed it up with esRam to not bottleneck the available bandwidth for the GPU but then that wouldn't be "unified memory" anymore.

the bandad part was funny and true. XD
that's art.
@sourav93 your comment makes no sense because both the environment and screen were recorded through the same camera. Then youtube will do its job of converting the video to whatever its standard is causing extreme judder and ghosting due to missing frames.
From a recording like this is impossible to even tell if the game's running smooth or not.

well, it has 1 or 2 things that make it unique like the customize your warzone and the owl shield but outside of that is pretty much a COD clone.
the more unique a game is the harder it is to review it because is such a departure from the more traditional approach that we are so used to. Some will love its uniqueness while other will hate it for not being what they expected.
That's why games like Call of Duty and Pokemon get good scores even though they are all the same. Because those game don't go out of our comfort zone.
