Not just for the sake of it, no. Necessity is the mother of invention. Innovation is great if it actually fills a need or makes something better. Otherwise it just becomes a solution in search of a problem. Personally I'd rather see Nintendo innovate with their games, not their hardware.
Too many times, Nintendo's gimmicks are solutions in search of problems. Innovation just for the sake of it isn't good. NECESSITY is the mother of invention, not novelty. The D pad was a great innovation because there was a need for it. The analog stick was a great innovation because there was a need for it with the introduction of 3D gaming and it made gaming better. Motion controls, while neat and interesting, offered no real improvement over the way we played games traditional...
Nope. Not until arcade mode is re introduced along with mainstay characters such as E.Honda, Sagat, Fei Long, etc.
Anyone who thinks PSVR will not be the unit to spearhead the VR era is fooling themselves. I guarantee you more PSVR units will sell on day one than Oculus and Vive have sold to date.
You've not seen the latest build of the game then. I agree with you regarding the build they showed at the May unveiling but the E3 build looked fantastic.
Agreed. While I have no doubt PS3 was a bear to work with, it didn't seem to stop teams like Naughty Dog, Insomniac, Sucker Punch, Evolution Studios, or Media Molecule from producing great games in a reasonable amount of time.
Ridiculous! A Thief's End is my second favorite in the series behind part 2.
IMO the best compromise would be to adopt a "rule of two" policy. Meaning that support for PS4 and X1 would continue for the duration of the existence of Neo and Scorpio. However once the successors to the Neo and Scorpio come out, the original PS4 and X1 support would drop and support would move exclusively to Neo/Scorpio and their successors, and so on and so forth.
I don't think "desperate" is the right adjective to describe it. However I do think they announced it prematurely. IMO what they should have done is just announce the "S" model at E3. Then announce the existence of Scorpio around March '17 to try and steal some thunder from Nintendo and the launch of the NX. Then they could have a full blown reveal at E3 '17 and launch it fall of '17.
Funnily enough, regardless of whether the game is actually any good or not I still support developers who are passionate about what they create. It's abundantly evident that Mr. Murray and his staff are extremely passionate about NMS. I look forward to playing it!
@ Majin-vegeta
It just goes to show that great game design beats raw power every single time.
After seeing the incredible games on display at Sony's E3 conference, I'm in no rush whatsoever. They can take all the time they want on Neo as far as I'm concerned.
@Goldby
Nobody was asking for this though. At least not enough to justify it. Pretty much everybody I've talked to has been perfectly content with PS4 and it's performance. Nobody has been looking at games like Uncharted 4, Ratchet and Clank, Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War, etc and saying "yeah, that looks like total doo doo. We need a better performing PS4.
Agreed. I don't get the urgency with this at all. Why release Neo now when you could wait another year two and release a proper PS5?
No but all these stupid Scorpio/Neo articles are going to drive me to drink.
Unless you have a 4K TV, If you want an X1 the thing to do is get the original big one. They're selling them dirt cheap right now.
Power does not automatically equal success. Price and games have a far greater impact on a console's success. PS4 is the more powerful console but it was also 100.00 cheaper than X1 when they both launched.
No they havent. They have only confirmed that it exists.
We dont know. Sony hasn't offially announced Neo yet. Thats the difference. MS has already played their hand, Sony hasn't.
Innovations are gimmicks that became a standard.
