My sons and I are waiting for it. I have even got them the halo console. They are 5 and 13, and I am also looking forward to playing it and I'm 44 :)
I'm with you, got 3 kids and have preordered it, along with kinect sports. It can not be any less used than my Wii. That gets used like twice a year.

it's not £40 a year, if you look a round it's like £27.25 (xboxlive76.com) which is just over 50p a week, Not bad value I'd say.

It's all about time and costs. They have only a set time to release a new game otherwise the dev cost will never be re-covered from game sales.

They are a month a part, so plenty of time to play both :), just bad on the wallet :( But if I had to pick one it would be Reach.
Save data size depends on the game, I think Dragon Age is like 2meg a save (one of the bigger ones). So uploading a lot of save data could take while.
No batteries required with Kinect.
All companies count shipped (i.e sold to distributors) no manufacturer knows how many are sitting on shelves waiting to be sold to you and I. To Sony & MS they have sold them (shipped from their warehouse).
No the silver can not play online. You have to log in as a guest of the gold account,
Or have two gold accounts.

Can I add auto syncing of trophies, why has this not been done, that can't be difficult for the cell and all it's power!
That's like having one phone for texting and one for voice why? when you can buy one that does both!
Even if the don't add cross game chat or party chat, sending voice message would be nice!
And all games on Arcade & Indie have demo's, come on Sony catch up! I like to try before I buy.

The early xbox's did 1080P with the component/VGA cable. 1080P didn't suddenly start with HDMI! You have been playing your Sony record to much. (By the way records came before CD's)
