Always online game does not mean if your box is online it will be fine. If their servers goes down or they shut them down your box that might be online is of no consequence

Tech is improving and cost are coming down for them as well. I have seen some new companies are starting to use smartphones for mocaps because tech has advance that fast. 3d scanning software have matured.
In the end. Make great games and they will sell and make a lot fo money. You only need to look at Sony, Nintendo and studios like Red to see the evidence of that.

The only way for Gamepass to really change gaming is if its available on other platforms as well.
In order for it to work it is critical for it to be on as many platform as possible so that it can has as many possible subscription. This is the key why Netflix worked. Penetration.
Seeing how MS is not going to go 3rd party anytime soon. This game pass is really not going to make much of a difference like with their play anywhere initiative or even x360 BC....
