@WiiU-Dude it came out on sega mega drive first I think. The whole franchise probably owes a great deal to the UK audience as that is where it cemented itself as the top game for many years and began its slow strangehold on the football gaming scene.
thats not strictly true, you have a license agreement in regards to games, as long as you adhere to tos & steam continues to host the product, you have a lifetime licence with no extra fees involved. you essentially own the licence.

Sony showing ultimate greed this gen would mean they done this with all games this gen.... Sackboy, Miles etc... that didn't happen.
We will be moving into a a phase where a lot of companies will charge for the upgrade... and at $10 this seems to be a point where it settles.
Things to note, some Games dont offer free upgrade AT ALL (such Warhammer cross bane or the new Hotwheels)

The base PS4 game took over 18 months in UK to drop from £45 to below the £30 threshold (New) Maintaining its price has been GOT's big flex last gen. you may be in for a wait if that is anything to go by.

Series S is easy to get in UK. its never sold out anymore.
Series X has no reason to outsell PS5, especially year one when there are no next gen only titles for it. If you lined up both consoles (and excluded services for a min) the PS5 is the far more exciting and progressive console, Series X is a good bit of kit, but it pushes absolutely nothing new and unique.
PS+ IS the premium service for Playstation, PSNow is the side gig. Its clear at current Sony prioritising PS+ but NOT neglecting PSNow.
Xbox are throwing almost every egg into GP basket, And (IMO) virtually neglecting GWG because they are manipulating people to away from it and onto GP
